Then the Maoris or Samoans are sexist? Why can't they have men and women do the same dance? It's not sexist at all. Someone earlier in the thread linked a video that showed the differences in how males and females do the dance this is based off of. The females' version tends toward somewhat softer, less aggressive motions than the males' version does.
Here's the quote with the video link:
Conversely they don't let the male characters do the more reserved and stately version, it's just that no one's complaining about that because we've all been socialised to think of masculine-coded traits like aggression as superior to feminine-coded traits like restraint.
That's the thing though; in real life even if a dance has sexist elements (I don't know anything about Maori culture, my apologies!) there's nothing actually stopping a girl from performing the 'masculine' version anyway if she chooses to. Any girl reading this thread can jump up and start doing it right now unless they have some kind of physical problem. Likewise, even if some people are sexist and hate the idea of guys wearing 'feminine' clothes nothing is stopping a guy from walking into a department store, buying a dress and being gorgeous. Or shopping online if they are shy.
So whether or not the underlying culture it's based upon is sexist - I have no idea - there being two variants of a dance doesn't have to be a limitation. Ballroom dancing was cited as another example and that's a good one because of course it's rooted in traditional gender roles for its culture. But in real life, you can easily swap the roles between the traditional male/female positions if you're in a group of girls or boys or just want to switch things up.
However, the game world has limitations on what the player can and cannot do with their character, and that's why people might make suggestions of how to enrich the experience for themselves based on their individual preferences. I think we can all agree there would be no actual down side to having access to both dances on all characters other than the time spent fixing the motion capture to work with the models and they can probably justify that if they release it as a content bonus (like the recent /sit additions) or reward for some future questline.
Heck, it would be a pretty awesome and cute storyline for a future Vanu Vanu or general beast quest. Some young female wants to learn the male version of the dance (or vice versa), and the Warrior of Light decides to help their new friend out. Sure, why not.
