I agree with your sentiment though. I'm definitely not in any super strong static or something, and I pug a lot. The stuff people can get away with is insane and there is definitely a sense of carrying going on. Bards not using RoD on A2S or Battle Voice, dragoons jump-locking themselves into telegraphed AoEs (which we all know are scripted!), ninjas not using Suiton -> Trick, tanks not rotating cooldowns properly forcing healers to heal more, summoners not using Tri-Disaster within DWT, list goes on. Equally so there are white mages that forget about Asylum, astrologians that forget CU and Lightspeed, scholars that forget manually using Embrace and manual Rouse'd Embraces are amazing. Even worse if you play an astrologian since your cards should be affecting their DPS immensely during the opener but it doesn't because the DPS is inconsistent to begin with.
Even had situations crazy enough I had to pull 1k DPS on Oppressor pre-0.5 and no DPS bats an eye anyway (as AST, it is possible but requires NIN+BRD and stupid luck too) and we would barely make a 60% split anyway, with everyone decked into an eso weapon and at least ilvl 191 minimum. But what can you do when they don't listen to criticism and won't find the will to improve themselves anyway?

Energy Drain + Fairy is the biggest crap ever in a HPS-low, DPS-heavy meta though.
I was forced to play first two weeks to "raise overall DPS" to beat Faust. Then I found out that both the MCH and the MNK in my group weren't using pots and were using NQ Buttons in a Blanket to get the Well Fed icon. Funny thing, huh? The raid group broke shortly after when adds weren't being placed or killed in time. Now I'm in a different group with good DPS output and the result is that, as the main healer, I don't have to do any damage at all unless I want to.

So is the logical answer for se to tune astrologian and white mage dps to be more in line with scholar dps or do we remove the need for healers to dps in raids with mechanics that require near full time healing attention of both healers or change longevity of healer dps and insane infinite mana a scholar has?

Perhaps if fights were more focused on tank busters/ AoE damage, while lowering the dps requirements, tanks and healers would focus less on dps themselves. So much in 3.0 and some things in 3.1 require dps checks. It was like the only mechanic SE knew how to use.

More fights like Thordan or positional fights like Shiva would allow for different strategies that aren't "dps! DPS HARDER! It's all about the deeps!" (Shiva is still one of my favorite fights. Extremely positional, massive damage that can be done with massive AoE damage periodically).

At the very least they don't have to treat us like little cubs. I've seen the average DPS being way softer and easier to break than the average healer, and the community is on our buns to DPS anyway. If it ends up being a bad thing surely the backlash will notify them of it. Let them create fights that try to bait healers more into using AoE or single target while they should be doing other stuff, and let the cumulative errors stack up to the wipe instead of 'You failed 1 mechanic. Try again.'

This is actually an eternal MMO design issue, and one that bothers even long-standing MMOs like WoW. The issue is, how do you keep the game both engaging and challenging for its players? Avoidance mechanics are a standard way, but if you want to harry the healers have giant explosions of massive damage somewhere, and if you want to harry the tank impose tank-busters and tank-swapping mechanics. But how do you harry the DPS? Even if you add mechanics that require dodging and debuff juggling, the only real way to do this is an enrage timer or some sort, be it soft or hard. Without that limit there's really no incentive to force the DPS into playing their best or using optimal rotations, and therefore they wouldn't be as challenged. Even Thordan has a number of DPS enrage mechanics, but the fight is tuned for ilvl 200 so players with raid or (urk) diadem gear likely won't have to worry too hard about them compared to the general cluster of AoEs.

Tuning DPS checks is a difficult matter though, and one often criticized.

Personally I will not DPS. All it takes is for the MT or a DPS to misstep and them I am in panic mode and start burst healing to save their hides. Instead of me conserving MP, and maintaining a balance within the raid/dungeon.

Not even when there is a burn check, you have mana to spare and no damage will be going out for the next 10 seconds, or just in general? Just asking before someone jumps on you.

Well that's just stupid, lazy, or stubborn. In all 4 of the end game savage raids now, there are extended durations where regen and a fairy can keep the tank up just fine. Standing there twiddling your thumbs when you could be helping your team do some dps is not great play on your end.

    You noticed that too, huh?

It boggles me there are folks measuring their healer's skill by the DPS they do rather than their skills in keeping the party/raid alive. Someone pointed out in another thread that the current meta is for healers to use their healing abilities as little as possible and deal damage instead.

What the hell happened? Did the collective mind forget that we have an entire group of classes/jobs whose role is to deal damage?

The raid fails to meet a dps check so everyone tells the healer to "git gud?" Whatever happened to holding the damage dealers responsible for the dps they do?

Sorry for the rant but the attitude expressed by some of the posters on this board regarding healer dps really grates on my nerves.

You anger is misdirected. That is the collective attitude because that is the way this game is. In even the hardest encounters in FFXIV, there isn't enough tank and raid damage to keep healers occupied healing fulltime. So instead of doing nothing, or overhealing, good gameplay dictates they move down their priority order and dps until they need to heal again. We don't make the game, we just play it, and that's how it is. It is always healers main job to keep everyone alive. Always. But in this game, it is very possible to keep everyone alive while adding meaningful DPS to the encounter.

If you don't like it, blame SE for not tailoring the healing meta to your liking. But you can't really blame the players for trying to be, and wanting their teammates to try and be, the best teammates possible. DPS in FFXIV is a total team effort.
