It makes sense, even with the whiskey.

No. The previously attached Materia will be lost.

If that wasnt the case, then you would just apply one Materia to any piece of gear (The process being 100% success rate) and simply continue infinitely until you reach that gear's cap on stats without ever incurring in risk of failure.

It seems to me like Materia is at least in part supposed to take items out of circulation to ensure that items aren't devalued as more of that item is created through crafting or drops e.g. the first Kirin's Osode on the server is worth millions, but after 10000 have dropped its worth a few hundred k. Materia encourages a player to turn their old item into an improvement to their next item rather than resell it.

I'm a bit discouraged about no accessory materia though. It seems like that shafts goldsmiths pretty badly.

I think the best part is that for the forbidden Materia craft, it will tell you tube success rate before hand and let you make the call

I think You Tube's success rate is already pretty high and we don't have much to worry about! ^.^!!! lol but yes in seriousness I like that they let you know the success rate prior to attempting, saves you the worry if you might lose that gear.

Kinda makes me wonder if it'll just be a one click type of thing. Hope it's not, I'd like to have a little skill involved with it.

My thoughts on this kinda come from the way things are now in game..

would go as far to say that 90% of the DH loot isn't as effective as +1 or better crafted variants, now this time I kinda felt
like *shrugs* it's something new to do w/e, but im not gonna play a game that the best gear comes from crafting over content.
is no point wasting hours on end doing content for gear, when i can spend the same time farming/crafting better gear..
and is no point to farm/craft better gear if there is no content with worth wild rewards to do with it. would rather do content over and over and have chance at a drop.. then do same old soulbind gear try to add an extra materia each time before it blows up over and over. at least doing the content is stuff for a group to do, can have some fun with friends and it
don't cost you anything to do the content over and over..

so If the best gear comes from crafting then the game becomes a crafting game with out reason to do any content.
I do not want to play a crafting game and I feel like FFXIV is more crafting then anything else already,.
and since finishing dark hold and getting every item from it.. I still kept my HQ variants because they really are better.
so nice job so far with the rewards for content.. most of which can't be sold or even traded and wouldn't sell for much anyway cause it isn't much good to begin with imo..

now slotted crafted loot.. so we get a new system to put materia on the same old crappy looking shit gear and sell for 10's of millions with 2,3,4+ materias on them... real excited about this... lol not really. someone should send a memo to SE and say.. hey do you realize like 85% of crafters are boters.. so lets make more content to reward those guys.. and the people actually playing the game can't go out and do some honest challenging content for great loot.
so sad where ff has ended up so far from the old online game.. and I think honestly the worst is still to come as far relative rewards for content goes..

but that's just my opinion.. *shrugs* w/e

My concern is that a +3/HQ item equipped with high quality materia may be more beneficial than a unique/untradeable item that was farmed.

While I am hoping this has been taken into consideration. I think later on down the line, being able to spirit-bond to all types of equipment.

Perhaps we can implement a means in the future of allowing crafters to have access to another's rare/ex items through an access window, not a means of trade.

I think if you allowed people to perform spirit-bond on all types of armor it would be fun. I don't think it would create an unbalance but provide another dimension. I find that rewarding those end game efforts even further would be nice.

However I would understand if it did not happen as well. This really strengthens the need for crafters as a whole and allows those who do not have a means of participating in end game to obtain gear which is equally sufficient to those gears.

So I am interested in seeing how it develops in the future.

for new players, this upcoming system works perfectly. You convert gears as you change them while leveling up. Don't blame the devs because you are already at max level but think of it as a great system in the long run. Once they introduce new gears (which they will in this patch as well) the gears you are currently wearing will be optimal for you to turn into materia once you get an upgrade. There is no need to "limit" yourself.

Happy Monday! Yoshida posted a follow-up to his last Materia post.

    Enjoy!

Since posting on Friday night (well, actually I guess it was Saturday morning), I read over all your feedback!
I was thinking to post a tiny bit after tomorrow, but checking today I saw quite a bit of posts, so here is some quick information.

・Looking into changing the name of “Spirit Bond.” (This is important, so let’s hear your feedback!)
・Looking into materia conversion of EX/RARE item next update

(With the premise that EX/RARE will not yield special stats when converted to materia)
・Materia attachment to EX/RARE items will currently not be possible (Depends on content updates)
・The calculation system fixes are being implemented at the same time, so it will be possible to feel the weight of stats +1(Matsui is doing his best!)
(In anticipation of this, materia stats are also being adjusted. Currently on the home stretch)
・It will be possible to convert secondary tools into materia, as well as attach materia to them.(Forgot to write this…)

The materia craft introduction system will be added as quests.
Also, after writing out the full specifications of the system, it definitely seems quite complicated. However, for the actual process of adding a single piece of materia to a single item, while there will be certain requirements of materia effects that can be attached depending on the equipment slot, there is no fear of failure and it will only enhance your equipment, so it’s really not as complicated as it looks.
This is essentially the starting line.

Once you start to get fixated on stats and begin target and hunt down materia effects, you will need to have a good grasp of the specifics. However, since this is a game it is only natural.
I’d like to officially release the stats as much as possible!

Since this is content that I would like to update for a long time from here on out, besides for the “forbidden” aspect, it is being created to be as simple as possible.
    (My explanation was probably bad)

I hope you are all in suspense for the materia that can be created in patch 1.19 and enhance yourselves as you like.

    I shall post again!
