Haha, last night I got into Arboretum (as healer) with my two DPS friends, and advised that the "new player" bonus was for me. So what happens? Huge pulls!

Now technically this was my 2nd time in the dungeon, as I tried the first day of patch, but I had crashed about 5 times during the run and had to bow out so the party could continue.

But yeah, you'd think that if your healer was new (or practically new in my case), they'd not go for the speed run sized pulls, but guess that doesn't fly with some people. >>




Edit: Aside from the initial judgement call of the tank (new healer, pull everything!), I'm not really faulting him for anything else. We didn't die to any trash pulls. While it did get a little iffy at times, I didn't ask for smaller pulls, so it's not like he was just ignoring my request. Just wanted to clarify as to not add to a potential witch hunt

I think most tanks/DPS/healers do their jobs just fine, but you do run into those every so often that have other ideas.

Ahhh, I don't think anyone won in that conversation. The DPS should have just switched it up to make things work with the party, and the tank definitely should not have pulled the "I'm going to just sit here" card. The conversation got stupid real fast.

The OP just complained about people who just pull before him, not about speedrun.

The OP actually just complained because he wants to be the one who pulls and be upset about it if he doesn't, as he said he doesn't have a problem with tanking bigger mob stacks. He HAS to pull. As other people in this thread called, a diva tank. If your healer pulls some extra mobs while you're already tanking, it means the healer is confident enough to keep you alive and as lv60 tank you should already know you literally only need one, ONE, aoe skill to grab them as the healer brings them to you. You don't even have to chase mobs around. If you refuse to tank that because you weren't the one pulling, people in this thread are right. When I was tanking on my other character, I liked when the healer brought me mobs while I was tanking a pack so I didn't have to move and make the dps chase the mobs after me so they could keep dpsing.

Overall I dislike this growing #worryingtrend of speed run all the things.
As many have stated, don't queue if you are in a rush. Mostly because you don't know who you will get paired with. Error on the side that you CAN control.
Just come back to the game later if you are feeling rushed. Tensions are too high if you play stressed.

I'm sure the summoner was so proud for pulling the boss and wiping the group when the tank had no TP. I know you post just to poke the embers, but really. It was a foolish pull followed by an unnecessary amount of bickering that should have been solved about four lines of chat after the summoner's macro with a vote dismiss on either member, since they were both stalling the run. The only one deserving of praise is the monk, who actually made an attempt to dial things back and probably just wanted to complete the run.

When I was tanking on my other character, I liked when the healer brought me mobs while I was tanking a pack so I didn't have to move and make the dps chase the mobs after me so they could keep dpsing.

Not everyone approves of unannounced pulls of more groups - Tanks like to keep it managable and in control when fighting, so when you blindside them by getting more enemies without agreement of both sides, you throw them out of their concept and their comfort zone.
And THAT is the problem.
ASK first before you piss them off. Seven hells, make a macro out of it you can press when entering the dungeon when you feel so socially lazy to talk to them in the first place.

This can be solved very easily with communication. Simply ask the tank to pull more. It gives them a chance to respond, such as if they are trying to weave in new skills in their rotation, they are learning a dungeon still, even if they have completed it before, or, that they are afraid of wiping, and your asking them gives them permission to take a risk they might not otherwise take in the DF. If the tank refuses large pulls even when the group is definitively capable, they probably aren't a great tank, they may be a "diva" tank, but pulling 12+ mobs onto their head is not going to make this kind of tank a better player. You're only playing against your own party at that point. Seek other solutions that benefit more from teamwork, or stop being a part of that team.

Gonna throw in my 2 cents here, and the funny thing is it might have been you who I'm about to reference.

I was leveling my ninja today, and our tank in Sohm Al was REALLY slow. He could barely hold threat off of the rest of us, was not using his buffs (as a warrior) and the best part?

He would stand in front of each boss for like 2 full minutes before pulling it. So yeah, we pulled stuff for him. I'm not turning a 20 minute dungeon run into a 40 minute dungeon run just because you want to watch netflix while you tank.
