I haven't done it yet but that will be the first thing I do when I get back home from work. I'll probably get the feels and get teary. It sucks that I didn't stay for much longer into the Adoulin expansion so I don't know some of the NPCs from that one but I did play for 10 years so I hope to see at least NPCs from pre Adoulin. FFXI, the best MMORPG ever, in my humble opinion.

As someone who played FFXI since it's beta 12 long years ago, I have a HUGE amount of emotional and time invested in the game. Only this year did I stop playing it, to focus more on FFXIV and other games. This event brought back a nostalgia that I had thought I lost. The sheer amount of shouts about the mobs in the different FATEs and FFXI in general made me laugh so much. It's kind of funny, that I see all these people doing the FATEs and having no idea what's going on and the random shouts. They are only there for the armor, and while they discuss how pretty it is I just shake my head... because they don't KNOW.

But it was the cutscene at the very end that got me. Because it brought back everything I had remembered in the game. I was THERE for all of it, when it all happened. I KNEW each and every single NPC they showed, I could list off their names and the areas they were in and how they acted. It nearly brought me to tears as the cutscene went on.

And THAT'S why FFXI and FFXIV mean so much, at least to me. No other MMO have I played so far has been able to elicit such a response to me. And for that, I thank you SE and Yoshi P for the worlds you have created.

As for the rest of you, did this event bring back any memories for you?

The only memory it brought back was how quickly I uninstalled that game. I didn't like the art style, I hated the UI, and the outdoor environments felt somehow claustrophobic.

Well, not really a spoiler but it only really involves one FFXI npc, Iroha from the special Rhapsodies of Vana'diel storyline that is winding up FFXI's story at the moment (so if you haven't been playing FFXI lately she won't be familar).

However it's still filled with tons of FFXI nostalgia,
from the music (FFXI's dungeon and regular boss battle themes Battle in the Overworld 1 and Battle in the Dungeon 2, and Recollection, an instrumental version of FFXI's main theme song Distant Worlds), to the still images of various FFXI npcs and enemies like the Shadowlord and Prishe, to the special FATES being parodies and homages to FFXI battles, like the first one on the beach near Costa del Sol against crabs referencing the infamous 'dooms' parties at the Valkurm Dunes, fighting Serket, a particularly infamous NM from Altepa Desert, and of course, the rank 2.3 mission boss fight against the Dread Dragon and Spotter. Even the key items dropped after each FATE was actually the Magicite the player was tasked with collecting during the rank 4.3 story mission in FFXI.

Despite all FFXI's problems and certain aspects of the game that always annoyed and frustrated me in the decade I have played it, I still look fondly on my time in Vana'diel and this event only drove home that. Thank you so much Yoshi for this trip down memory lane!

I def miss being able to get completely lost in Vanadiel :P Others before have said it best. It was about the journey not the destination.

My only disappointment is that it was a bunch of fates. That last quest though... is a nostalgia attack.

Being brave isn't the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.

I also got teary-eyed during the final cutscene. FFXI was the best game I've ever played. No other game comes close to the amount of memories I have of it.

FFXI was my favorite world in any MMO, bar none. The atmosphere and music were so awesome.
