I don't really understand the issue people have with this. So there's a specific FEW (comparatively) recepies that you won't be able to make? What's the big deal with that? Isn't that the same for every other crafter as well, it's not just YOU specificly right? You'll still be an omnicrafter in every other way, except for a few recepies. And if you think that having the specialization that makes the most soughtafter mat is such a big thing, why not just pick that specialization yourself? Not being able to do absolutely everything yourself isn't such a big deal.

Also, specialization for the combat classes? GIEF ME NOW! I'd see no problems with this at all, it's not like I play more than 1-2 classes seriously anyways. And since a specialization on the same level would only add/remove fluff things, I don't see an issue with it at all. Or were you thinking along the lines of the actual job soulstones? I personaly wouldn't have a problem with that either. But that comparison would be like if the crafterspecialization let get access to the cross-class skills, since most of a combat class's actually useful skills comes with the soulstones.

You're all acting like if you won't be able to craft at all after this...

@Slateboard: no one is FORCING you to do anything, it's not like if you miss anything of particular imporatance.

I don't think it's an issue of not being able to craft after this, or it's forcing crafters to form close-knit communities to help each other.

This is the benchmark... if SE determines this is the way crafting with be then they will continue on this path and make everything gated behind something. I'm starting to get lost with "where can I get this item" syndrome as it is... then add in, "only this specialization can make this item to make another item that is a specialist only recipe" then it just snowballs, I loved crafting because it was just something I can do when I wanted, how I wanted, soon I'll have to make a flow-chart just to make one piece of gear :/

Also I like having my name on all pieces of gear I craft, I refuse to wear another crafter's DoW / DoM gear. I'll just make accommodations because this is just my play-style.

I doubt it'll go that far, looking at other systems they've implemented before.

So it's a big part just about ego then? I got that feeling from reading this thread, good to see someone is honest.

It's not a big part, it is the ENTIRE part. You do not become a well know crafter by wearing other people's gear. When new content comes out the top players will seek you out, well at least when the gear we create was relevant. I have no problem buying / trading for materials, but finished gear being specializations is a big downer. I also like to help out new crafters, I write blogs and guides, so I'm not all about MY profits

A big part of this thread is pretty much how Square has dropped the ball regarding crafting since Heavensward came out. Ego is just something you're putting into everybody else's mouths from one line from one person.

Right now I'm laughing my ass off at anyone who specialized in Alchemy. I am sure Squeenix will fix this in 3.2 by making everyone have to use something only they can make. That should show the whole problem with specialization in a nutshell, one patch it will be completely useless another one will be manditory. It not only requires omnicrafting at the base it requires you having to regrind to fix Squeenix's mistakes every patch or so.

I dont think it is totally ego at least for me. I like my name on my gear so those that ask or hire me to make something can see I actually craft it or can craft it.

That happened on our server with desynthesis when the relics need a items for upgrade and each item required something from each desynthesis class . No one had leveled Alchemy. Boy the one or two people who did became wealthy in seconds.

and its going to go back and forth forever. Except some are going to get a bunch of recipes constantly so specialize if you want to craft regularly or play the lottery!

At the moment those are pretty much only items you can SB in Diadem, ilvl180 greens are just too expensive for that. But yeah in general specialist system still needs some adjustments, as i liked that i could do everything myself.
