I determine what I think an item is worth based on what it cost me to make and the effort I put into it. If that is half of what other people are selling it for, I'll probably not shed any tears, since in my mind, I'm not stealing their market because the market isn't theirs to steal. It's mine to create.

Note, This basically only applies to simple products the mean selling price is over 5000% what I paid to make it. It costs me roughly 200 Gil to get the ingredients for Glamour crystals. If I see them being sold on the MB for 10000 gil, I correct that problem. And make a tidy profit for my efforts.

Liked for the cat slap gif.

But mb is heavily regulated by emotions, demand [sometimes], supply [often but still impatience rules over supply] and mostly patience or impatience.

My answer to this is study the boards, check the sale history and watch prices fluctuate. Biggest advice ever? practice patience-patience-patience whether that be getting it yourself for free by utilizing the same methods those selling the item used, or just waiting till the prices fall.

If I ever pay a stupid high price for something it is for one of two reasons:
    1. I can't get it ANY other way and have to have it now. [impatience]
    2. Impatient.

Stuff sells more on weekends by default and prices tend to drop for that short time.
After patch is the worse time to buy stuff because everyone is impatient to get new stuff and everyone is eager to price it up because ...well because they can.

Actually, there's a reason for that. Many of the HW gear are used for leve turn-ins; that makes demand for it high for many crafters levelling up. Demand increases, supplies drop (less people doing the MSQ now) so price increases.

This really happens because of people trying to clear/organise their retainers' inventory, which can be a time intensive enough process as is.

    You can not:
    1) Discard anything directly from a retainer's inventory.
    2) Sell anything to a vendor from a retainer's inventory.

Therefore, without moving items individually to your own inventory (which can be impossible if your own inventory is already full and you have no more retainer space), pretty much the only thing to do is sell it on the mb. It's not like anyone is actually trying to make money or deliberately piss sellers off, they just want to get rid of all the crap the game gives you. Honestly all the stuff I've listed for not much on the MB's would've never been there if I could've just discarded stuff my retainer was holding.

If you were seeing this happening even more often as of late, these are likely reasons why.

Listing things for low value or even 1 gil

    1. New patch inc=people doing inventory housecleaning. So much like in real life, stores will occasionally have blow-out sales...or people will sell their unwanted stuff in their front yards (yard sales), you see people just listing unwanted inventory for cheap...sometimes super cheap. They just want it gone. As to why 1 gil? That I really can't specifically say, because the MB already automatically sets everything's 'suggested' sale price for the npc vendor cost...(So any player selling something for 1 gil can see that an npc would pay them 23 gil for that etc) but it likely is 'I just want it gone, happy day to whoever buys it...and this is a person, likely unlike you, who doesn't care about maximizing their profits.

    2. They only have 1-2 of the items...and are too lazy to find an npc to sell it to, but likely check their retainer daily. If their retainer has open selling slots, why not? This is the most common reason you likely see this happening.

    3. They are trying to transfer items from one character they own to another. This is a more rare situation. But sometimes people use the mb's to move items between their main and alts. Sure, they could ask another player to trade them>then trade the alt, or depending on their FC chest page access use it...but not everyone is comfortable/has access to the other options...so taking the risk on the MB's seems worth it.

    4. They are quitting the game/transfering to a different server and either no longer give 2 poops about their profits, or can't take it with them/cleaning inventory (see 1) to buy up items they CAN take with them to profit on.

    5. They've had the item listed for a long time...it still hasn't sold...out of frustration, they severely cut it's price.

This behavior however, can only actually only be maintained on items that have a high supply and very low demand. For example. If I listed HQ Adamanite Ores for 1 gil, they'd be bought up faster than most people would even see them...and it would be basically impossible (unless i had previously bought up the entire mb/been farming them non-stop for serveral weeks), for me to maintain keeping them listed for 1 gil ea. Because they would be purchased too fast for me to personally supply that. So, even though one person that day got a 'steal' the reality is, my listing just wouldn't bring the prices down on our server.

But take something like the goat leathers you mentioned...there's just far less demand, and a far greater supply of them on the server. Also, HQ goat leathers are now 'worthless' to most leatherworkers because they don't need the HQ mat to make the HQ final product. So, even though the leathers are HQ'd...and that should typically add value to the item, in this case, there's so low a demand for HQ...let alone the leathers in general, that most people sell them low/same price as nq's because that better matches their 'real value'. Now, the flux you'd see in price on this item, (why it's price is less stable), is because when their value gets low enough (NQ/HQ alike), you'll typically have an aspiring leatherworker or someone leveling their leatherworking desynth buy many of them up, because at that specific moment, they can level cheapest by using those leathers over the skins...or another type of leather altogether. Still, since most people interested in leveling leatherworker/leather desynth on our server are for the most part, above the 'goatskin products' level, that moment is short lived, esp since you'll then have people notice 'goatskins are selling high, quick let me sell some of my stash', happen, which starts to reset the process.

    As to your suggestions:

    1. There is really no benefit to this. Not only that, if someone wants to sell and item that an npc'd pay them 23 gil for, at only 1 gil...that's, quite literally, their loss. You have the option of buying that same item up, and making 22 gil just by npcing it if you want to. Basically, this is the backwards version of buying an item off an npc for 23 gil, and then being able to re-sell it on the market boards for 230 gil. I mean, if you want SE to hold people's hands and force them to sell at a set min. price, then technically, SE should then be able to force a cap on prices....which is dumb. If someone doesn't know that the NPC in their FC house sells common crafting items because they never bothered to check it, it's on them...same as it is for them not researching the NPC sale prices (ironically, something which could be done via the SAME npc).

Also why it's not needed...again, the only way a market can maintain a low selling point on an item, is if that item is in exceptionally low demand....so if you're getting upset because people are listing the items you wish to sell at low prices consistantly, maybe you need to change markets/selling strategies.

    2. This is a horri-bad idea. On our server atm, many of the HQ 2-star crafted items are listed for 14-20mil (some have sold). The average of that, is roughly 17 mil. So...that would mean, people couldn't even list these items for 12-14 mil with your plan but would HAVE to list them for 17mil plus. It would make it so, the first few people who found/sold a new item would be ultimately setting the prices....but as time goes on, and more people have access to creating those items, their prices should naturally come down. You would make it so that the people listing these big ticket items would be doing themselves a favor by listing and rebuying their items over and over to 'set' the price singlehandedly. (We have people who do this now w/ items they craft to try to convince others on our server that some items are worth the inflated value they are trying to sell them for...but it typically doesn't work, and it doesn't force other people listing the same items to do it at their high price point, you can sell/buy at what YOU think is reasonable...and that is the best approach).

The free market works...as supply increases, and demand is met, the prices lower and then become stable....but once the supply is higher than the server demand, the prices begin to plummet and show more flux. This of course, doesn't always mean it'll work out in your favor, but in the long haul, it should, and it's not hard to make gil on Exodus...in part because many, many niches are undersupplied and over-demanded....just have to find your niche...and then adjust accordingly as times change.

Of course, cause maybe people want to be nice and that can't happen, I recently got my weapons I need for relic HQ on market board for 20,000 each, and the person who sold them was right next to me, so I asked why and he said "Hey everyone needs help sometimes, its no big deal." but nooooooo its apparently stupid. or mean. or maybe people who complain about just dont like new players or being nice. "its the real world, people are mean." and people are nice get over it people/

Quest/Craft/Whatever calls for 4 HQ item. MB people selling 5 of HQ item for 700g each, buy use 4 resell 1 for 300g.

Randomly receive 3 HQ dongles. 500g each for HQ dongle stack 99 - sell 3 HQ dongles for 450g each.
