If that's the case then that kinda explain a lot actually. Many people have been complaining - especially mages - that gear look slightly "feminine" or at least look better on females.

I doubt it, otherwise how you explain various tanks sets that look like armour for literal tanks on female PCs? It could be based off the class, I believe Yoshida did say something about females and White Mages at one point.

Male -> female gear is easier than transitioning hear from female->male.

I'd rather just not see any gear locked by gender or race. I think instead of asking SE for more male locked things you should be asking for everyone to be able to wear what they want.

While I would prefer less (or none) gender locked items, I'd say Square Enix has made an amazing game if this is the main area that has garnered so many complaints.
