(sorry in advance for my bad english...)

many people gonna flame me ! But, if i recall properly in FF11 (oh no, not ff11 not again ...), there was the "dynamis", "sea", "sky" stuff,, that kinda forced people to play together in an organized way,
and when you got the chance to have something it was amazing !! (ex shadow ring http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_Ring )
but that stuff was HOLY GOD DAMN HARD to get !!
and when you had those you felt really proud !

in my opinion that is what is missing in FF14, "unique" item, with real instance (im sorry but you cant even compare a "dynamis" with our actual 24 raid stuff)

Stuff like this only really works if the gear lasts a really long time. Gear in this game lasts about 3-6 months. Some gear in XI lasted years and years until Abyssea trashed mostly everything.

I don't see it happening since this is a mass market casual game for the most part and implementing a change like this just wouldn't work out too well in the current market as a subscription game.

Knowing that stuff gets outdated pretty fast I would be reluctant to work on anything that took forever honestly even though I played XI for a long time.

The old generation of MMO players are pretty much displaced unless you count those kickstarter games and some fan projects.

(again in ff11, this wasnt a problem ...)
Different games really. Some of the player base just solos. You can play the entire game just by yourself for the most part. If you tried to solo in XI early on it was super inefficient so players would get weeded out basically in the leveling process and you couldn't really get anything done by yourself.

Back when MMOs were a niche they were OK to be hard as balls (making Dark Souls look like the easiest game in the world by comparison) but all these new players want the content to be more accessible. I don't know how SE can solve this issue without alienating like 95% of their playerbase...
