You never know. They may make something that most people like and have never thought of. It is possible.
    ^ This.

They can release content every 3 months, and make the gear that comes from it comparable to the gear we already have, situational if you will. Leave the phasing out of gear for level cap raises.
Yet people still misinterpret Yoshi's post. I have below a paragraph quoted:

However, in 3 months time, a solid strategy will be formulated and the difficulty level of the battle content will be adjusted too, allowing players “who cannot put their entire life into gaming” to eventually obtain the shining rod. On the other hand, the next battle content will arrive by that time and hardcore players will be able to continue challenging themselves. This is the ideal cycle for highest level items in end-game MMORPGs. (This is Final Fantasy so we plan on putting in slightly unusual features for items like Excalibur)
He mentions content bringing new desirable gear.

He mentions the most hardcore of players, as a result of their extraneous efforts, will be among the first few to obtain the shiny new items.

He mentions that the difficulty will be such that it will take ~3 months for the majority of the players to be able to obtain it with ease (due to revealed strategies and/or difficulty adjustments.)

He mentions that by that time, there will be new content introduced with new shiny desirable gear, effectively completing the cycle of content.

Where, for the love of the Twelve, do you see any mention of newly introduced gear making the previous set obsolete?

People will want new gear just because it's new and they must have it before anyone else. That is the driving force. I wanted the Alpine War Jacket so bad. I wanted so much to have it before most people in my Linkshell and even server. I don't even use it, and knew it wouldn't effectively replace my optimal gear on PGL or ARC. I still wanted it because it looks awesome, and it's new.

Yoshi effectively announces his vision for the future of FFXIV is new major content every 3 months, with new gear. People still find a way to jump to a negative conclusion and then mass hysteria ensues.

The people, like me, who are "misinterpreting" are expressing the fact that nowhere in Yoshi's post did he say gear will become useless or replaced with each update.

How else would the OP come up with the 3 month time frame and the idea of items become useless, unless he/she didn't understand what Yoshi said?
A combination of YP's post and this thread:

Yea, I'm camping this thread because I'm trying to make BSM SP go by faster, ran out of content long ago lol. Ironic.

(We want it to be familliar like other large MMO's) (We want to stea....players from other MMOs...oops)
I'm sorry, I had no idea you had the ability to read the minds of the developers. Tell me, what did Yoshi-P eat for lunch today?

Also, to add to my previous post, it's a joke to even suggest new content will be making gear obsolete or suggesting to know what gear balance will be like post 1.19.

Has anyone even considered the materia system alongside the crafter optimization system being added to crafting. The ultimate gear that will last you months or even years will be one that is already good as a base and has 5 appropriate materias attached to it. It will be unique. Chances are not a single other person will have the same thing. It will be unbelievably difficult to obtain/achieve/craft.

Also, he mentions a steady flow of new content every 3 months with new gear. They can very easily plan a larger event/instance that is even tougher and awards something with much more lifetime.

Jumping to conclusions is not productive. One should appreciate the possibilities and post about good ideas they'd like to see.

I don't really mind, i get very tired of wearing the same thing for longer than a few months. Instead of having one end game plan for gear and wearing it for 2 years, id rather they frequently give me something new to aim for. One problem i have with this game is that long term goals are quite easy to reach, and once they have been, there isn't really much left. Having a new endgame equipment scenario every 3 months prevents stagnation for me.

I dont really care if i get items before other people/they get them before me, or if someone else has an easier time than i do with the content. Aslong as i have fun doing whatever it takes to get the items, and if i do, the more items i need to get the better. I think they can still work around preserving 'ultimate' equipment by releasing the best and hardest to acquire items in advance, that way it takes a couple of years for the basic 3-month endgame equipment to catch up, at which time a new set of ultimate gear can be released.

Also, its the players who decide whats the best piece of gear usually. SE sometimes release 'high end' equipment sets, only to have a couple of pieces handpicked by the community depending on roles and jobs, and the rest is left for dust. Chances are, over a 1 year period, the community might find a piece from each 3 month cycle that fits their perfect builds better.

Lol, I can't argue with you guys anymore.

So what, a post by the lead producer sparked an idea in someone's head who then decided to ask the community how they feel about it. What's so wrong about that?

And yet, instead of answering the question, which doesn't even hint at it being true, false, whatever, people decide to bicker and moan about how it's not going to happen that way. All you had to do was simply say, "I like it" or "I hate it" and maybe explain why. The same people that say YP's post was taken out of context are doing the same thing with the question at hand.

A bunch of hypocrites is all I see here. And this is why nearly every thread on here turns into a flame war, it's pathetic lol. Sometimes I'm just embarrassed to be a part of the FFXIV Forum community. Thank god the in game community does not resemble this, at least on my server.

    As you were..
