I actually agree with this. The story keeps me content but the system backing it is not the best. But!

The dev team has said they're actually aware of this; that their quest system only supports limited tasks, and they're worried about players getting sick of it, and they're trying to expand its capabilities.

For this reason, though, I abhorred the relic quests. Pure grindy time sinks. I wish they were more like an epic journey, which the i80 part was a bit closer to. Sadly, by all indications, the new relics will be the same...

    Aye!

The original relic quest, the one ilvl 80, when you had to defeat the 3 hard mode primals, was a good approach. Not that dificult, but a bit dificult. Not so long, but not that short. You also had quimera and those things...

Making you do boring things 200 hours to get Z was a bad approach.

Well back in XI it was a mix of fetch, battle, farm, and bosses. Thing is Yoshi designed the story quests as bare minimum content so that "no player would be left behind". This also means the content is a quick thrill with no punch to it. At the same time, nothing interesting will ever be done to it because the playerbase has already been spoiled. Look what happened when they made Steps of Faith slightly harder and not faceroll. Mass complaints as if SE just made Savage Alex part of the MSQ. So don't expect anything from the gameplay aspect of the MSQ.

That's not even a simplification of the story quest in some cases. That's literally the quest chain leading up to Titan. There's a lot of quests put in here not to be interesting but rather to take up time and fulfill a content quota.

$10 to $15 will buy you a movie ticket but you wouldn't pay for that movie if you didn't want to watch it and if you didn't enjoy it you'd either complain or wouldn't go and see it again. You can't compare paying a sub to that.

To get your first job from 50 to 60 (assuming you're actually playing the job, reading the text and not rushing to endgame) will legitimately take you roughly 50 to 60 hours if you're clearing the sidequests along the way.
How many hours of uninteresting sidequests (such as finding moogles and the like of them) which are of no value both gameplay wise and storyline wise ?

How many hours spent repeating the same dungeons to grind for 2 different types of tomestones over 5 months ?

How many hours spent running around the areas zerging hunt mobs which are only sightly buffed version of regular monsters ?

How many hours spent wiping on poorly designed and overtuned raiding encounters ?

The quantity isn't what matter, what matter is the quality of the time you spend on the game. Currently the ratio of time spent on FFXIV versus gameplay quality is near 0 on FFXIV.

Hang on right there. Pretty much every JRPG I have ever played features extensiveuse of fetch quests, gather information from various NPCs, tour the world, etc. This is a standard, and hardly remarkable feature of FFXIV and RPGs in general. It doesn't matter how it gets dressed up, a fetch quest is a fetch quest, etc... I've played games that claimed that they had done away with such things, only to find that in fact they had simply reframed traditional fetch quests, and all the usual cliche events, in a way that let the developer claim revolution, when in fact all they'd done was cloak them. This is a story driven game, thats just the way it is.

Actually you can and is a perfect example if you didn't like the movie you not going to watch it again. If person doesn't like the game why do they continue to keep playing it? It been 2 years and a expansion release doesn't look like they changing their playbook.

But the title of this thread is 'People who expect too much from a monthly subscription kill this game'? What is he asking for, a better game or for people to stop complaining? The entire thread is very contradictory.

as someone who is on the road to clear 2.0-2.55 for a third time. it isn't that long at all.

i play mmo cuz games have raised in price but provide less content. I beat most games in 3 days, some it make take me a week.

I'm from a generation where it took u a week or a mnth to fully beat a game, and games like morrowind u could invest into play it a year and still not see everything. I'm not gonna play 60 dollors on a game to beat in 3 days only to spend another 30-60 in dlc that barely adds much to the game.

It sad that this guy stated leveling is too long. Why not play dcuo, max cap is 30 you reach it in 3 days playing 5 hrs a week, you don't rely on other players at all. infact if you sub to the game u get free token to buy cash shop items such as reply badges to circumvent raid lock outs.
