Wednesday is going to be crazy.
Been years since using this forum. @_@
I don't understand why you use word "gated"?
Many people already have full 210 sets, so how can the upgrade items be "gated"?
Also you can get the upgrade items for Void Ark too.
Hunts aren't the only way to get the items. If you don't like hunts, just stick to the Void Ark and upgrade slowly.
I am kinda glad about hunts, because I use it as some casual time killer, just running around maps and waiting for spawns in party while watching films. Unfortunately I have already upgraded everything I wanted.
They're wrong. The upgrade parts that are being added originally drop from Alexander: Gordias (Savage). Now they'll be added to Centurio Hunts and Void Ark's reward system. They will not be gated behind Hunts. Please do not spread misinformation out of reaction.
Or you can just do the daily/weekly bills and only do Elite Marks if they're nearby or you just feel like it. Doing hunts after the initial zergs die down is actually relaxing and enjoyable.
And make the process of catching up a tedious chore? Sounds like a plan.
This is funny because it's not. Hunting is simply just one method out of few to get upgrade materials. Nothing more.

As other people have already said, no, they haven't gated them behind hunts. You will be able to upgrade all your Esoterics armor and accessories (but not weapon) without ever doing a single hunt.
Hunts will probably be the fastest way to garner multiple upgrade items though, with both Alexander Savage and Void Ark being much more limited than hunts in how much you can feasibly acquire in a given week.
Right now, the checklist looks like this: 1) Do weekly's, 2) Hunt as much as possible
I just really wish I could actually avoid hunts without feeling like I'm falling behind, like I'm dragging my feet when everyone else in the group is putting up with hunts to progress through the content. But, I guess I've gotten used to the hunt funneling cycle they keep bringing back. A little depressing, really.

You're months behind in fact.
