Ascians did nothing wrong.
Hydaelyn did Calamity.

Well, there's a reason why he was "blotted" out and not visible to us, when it's very clear who it's supposed to look like. I'm pretty confident that they did that because they didn't want to give us the idea that he was going to be the Warrior of Darkness, but rather who he supposed to represent. Much like the WOL derplander represents us as WOL, he is doing the same for the WOD. If it were actually our character, then the whole "you and yours" wouldn't make sense, because as far as our story is concerned - Our character's the sole leading warrior of light. By this I mean, ours is the only character working directly with the Sions, and networking with all the important factions. As far as the story's concerned, we simply call in our friends to help us with the hard fights - and that's hardly even acknowledged beyond "Hey bring your friends to help you."
It would be very fragmented, and unorthodox to introduce the derplander for the first time as a warrior of darkness when we haven't even actually met this character in the story yet. It seems far more likely that they were using him as a sort of icon to represent us, than a foreshadowing to the introduction of the derplander.

RoZ and CoP are what hooked me, musically, and storywise! amazing!Omg, I remember my Divine Might run like it was yesterday.... So much pain but at least I got my earrings from it ^_^.
Taru was a BLM/RDM, Hume was a WAR/NIN, Galka was a SAM/DRG, Mithra was a BST/THF, and Elvaan was a PLD/WHM. All with both Job's 2hrs, (At the time DRG's 2hrs was to summon your Dragon Pet...) So much fun in that fight. Not only was it optional, but it counted as completing ZM 11 as well.
Such an awesome track as well.
Fighters of the Crystal
We are Hydaelyn's chosen. The mothercrystal protects us. They know this. That's why they want us out of the way. While we're desperately trying to plug leaks, it seems that we are becoming out of balance ourselves. After we defeat Thordan, he looks at us and says "How?...A millennium of prayer combined with the eyes power... And still you stand? Who...What are you!?"
As if no mortal should have had the sort of power that could stop him. Like we're slowly reaching godly status.

Hydaelyn's Blessing >>>> Thordan and his Knights. Afterall, with it we were able to withstand Ultima Weapon + Ultima Spell + Lahabrea. I suspect in the future the WoL will be able to actively use Hydaelin's Blessing to kill Asciens rather than relying on other means like the eye, etc.
I also suspect the the WoD and his crew might be fighting Ravana in order to get a Crystal of Darkness to hopefully collect enough to get Zodiark's Blessing. We know that you can get the Light Crystal other than fighting Primals, so maybe WoD might've have already collected a few behind the scenes.
Yeah, but she is not all powerful. She spent the latter half 2.X and the early parts of 3.X being completely useless. It took all she had to protect us from Ultima.
Despite this, we persevered and made many small victories, gaining more and more power, eventually we were able to wipe the floor with Thordan who had his 1,000 years of fervent prayer (maybe 1000 times more than any primal before them has ever had) combined with the yet unused Eye's power. Something we really shouldn't have been able to do.
The balance is shifting into our favor, hence why the Ascians are sending in the Warrior of Darkness. To level the playing field.

I kinda think the WoL is kinda like the son/daughter of Hydaelyn, and not just some random adventurer that won the super power lottery. The WoL has no history beyond the day they showed up on a cart or boat to Eorzea, and more than once has Hydaelyn called the WoL beloved son/daughter. While it's possible this is just generic goddess talk to their mortal creations, those other echo gifted people don't seem to blow up gods as a hobby.
The WoD may just be the same thing but with a father named Zodiark. Also we've always just assumed the opening cutscene with derplander is about us, but maybe what we are seeing is what was happening on a parallel world. The reason he could be a stand in and a separate character at the same time, thus staying true to previous statements from Yoshi-P.
Evil gets thrown around too often as a short hand for people whose motivations and desires are in opposition to another group's own. I get the feeling the world the WoD and the Ascians are from is dying cause our world is pulling aether from their side, like if you pictured the relationship as an hour glass. This would explain the divide we see in the Ascian camp at times. One group wants to simply restore balance to make things as they were, the other wants to remove all chance of a repeat in the future by simply removing our world as a factor.

The problem with 'divine birth' is that that'd make Hydaelyn about as promiscuous as Zeus. Before, and after, the Waking Sands the Scions harbored many people blessed in the Echo, Minfilia not the least among them. I have to agree with the 'super lottery' theory simply because we literally see the Echo being given out by an Ascian in the Leviathan story arc (as well as what happens when the Echo is used when near something that eats aether). What makes the Warrior of Light special isn't the Echo, that's just what 'opens the door'. What makes the Warrior of Light special is the Blessing of Light. It's what kept the Ascians at bay at the Waking Sands and Rising Stones. It's what allowed us to survive Ultima and break Thancred free of Lahabrea's control in the Praetorium. The Echo is just what lets us survive what would otherwise be fatal wounds (see Avere).
Someone's been playing too much Tales of Symphonia lolEvil gets thrown around too often as a short hand for people whose motivations and desires are in opposition to another group's own. Loved that game though so I wouldn't complain too much if this was the case.
I don't have sympathy for the Ascians because their leader refuses to say WHY "balance" needs to be brought back and said leader also refused to tell his friends to cut it out when they were going too far to stop the WOL. If the Ascians are trying to sell me this balance nonsense while also putting lives of others in danger at the same time, then they're, at the very least, stupid evil to me and have to be stopped.
