If you practice on finishing the cast right as the last monster from the current pull dies you won't have this problem. Once you're used to it it will come in handy, especially in the bigger pulls that hit really hard.Between the fights I'm usually chasing the tanks and dps who have fire in their tail. Can't stop casting it because it risks accidentally pulling by the cast because the target was already pulling/attacking when the spell lands. And the amount it covers, especially after nerfs is negligible. Usefull for special situation but that about it. Now if people would stop running like there was a special bonus for speedy completion, then -maybe- I could SS them in mid dungeon.
I never use it during combat unless someone has just wiped and I want to buffer them a bit if more damage is coming. Otherwise seems like a waste. I definitely don't keep it up on anyone during combat, why bother if you have Medica II or something up as well, just wastes your mana.
You know what? Stoneskin's real use is to cushion spike damage. A single medica can recover more hp than stoneskin can block.
The only job that don't utilize stoneskin enough is pally, but with clemcy and divine veil even pally don't really need stoneskin as much as they use to.
I'd say 99% of the players I run into don't seem to understand that. To them they think stoneskin is a buff therefore it needs to be up.
It's all in your heads people. It's a false sense of security, and a waste of swiftcast. Put up eye for an eye, divine seal, medica 2, regen, asylum, shroud of saints, cleric stance, swiftcast aero 3, presence of mind, then let the holy loose.
Once upon a time Stoneskin was awesome.
I still love my Stoneskin. I'll try to SS everyone at the end of a fight so they have it for the next fight. It gives me a couple seconds to throw out an Aero 3 and do a little dps. It gives a few extra seconds to put Regen and Asylum out before I'm fighting an uphill healing battle. Great for mitigating big hits or stray hits to dps. It's not very mana friendly to spam it but it's awesome to use when you're just standing around during trash pulls or boss fights. It's great when it's used properly and by properly I mean whenever you have extra mp.
I try to keep it up on myself at all times. As SCH I rarely use it as WHM/AST I use it as often as I can on the tank...it's damage mitigation!
As an AST, I love swift casting SS right after a fight, switch to Noct and shield, then switch back to Diurnal all while running. Makes me feel BAWS! >:OI still love my Stoneskin.
