Consoles are holding this game back (graphically)

So yes, they really do need to drop PS3 support so we can get a better game. It's amazing what they have been able to achieve whilst being held back by PS3 limitations. But it's time to take the old PS3 out back and put it out of it's misery. It's for the best.

They said PS3 would keep support throughout 3.0 but they had no plans to keep PS3 support beyond that. so likely 4.0 will have no PS3 support.

If it comes out next year it probably will. I imagine sony will kill the PS3 next year in the US based on nobody I know talking about PS3 games coming out but who knows they seem addicted to it. Regarding graphics quality, improved texture resolution could be implemented both on the PC and the PS4 which is a great platform for 1080 resolution with no real big limitations for that resolution. That would be a simple way to improve the look a lot without killing performance from making realistic looking grass or something.

That is true I was just using it as hypothetical.

Regarding OP specifically, more so than holding back the game graphically, catering to the limited capabilities of the PS3 means that certain encounters, etc. are not possible so it is more holding the game back in general than graphics wise which is kind of unimportant IMO.
