Decision making has nothing to do with anything. You're practically saying a dragon has no decision making involved and last time i checked they aren't robots. I didn't think you acute enough to realize that if young dragons are able to realize that not all non-dravanians are bad then surely they could try to fight for a better ideal? The future generation doesn't always have to follow in the pasts footsteps.

I respect your opinion for not wanting one though.
I...have no idea why you're saying "calm down", but...okay?

You really did not understand what I was saying at all. You choosing to fight other miqo'te is something you do as an adult who has come to believe in things of their own will. Raising a child to believe what you want it to is not the same as that.

My only problem with SMN is that it's a dot class. I really dislike dot classes in FFXIV due to the slower paced combat system. FFXIV could use another pet class and hopefully one that's not also a dot class.

Today on my dragoon dragon killing adventures... sidequest spoilers:

i find it ironic that i end up doing side quests for the young dragonlings fetching food/earning their trust etc... there's lines where one of the dragonlings brother is injured by ishgard soldiers after you've earned his trust and he begins questioning if you and other eorzeans are actually bad but he realizes not all people are. He asks you to help him get medicine to heal and change his brothers way of thinking cause the brother refused to eat the food found. He basically puts his faith in you.

I could see the dps loss from gaining a pet bug some ppl, especially parsers who like big numbers by their names. Scholar has a fully automated pet and they require more focus than a drg. All ours would have to do his auto attack and throw in an ability here or there.

More npcs on screen for processing etc is finally a reason i can agree on but ps3 support was ending soon i thought?

Thats exactly what I was talking about when I said: If you wanna get a dragon-pet you should give up the fight and do stuff like you did in that quest to earn his trust. Because what you did wasnt going out there slaying your own kind (something a dragon might not understand that well either, I dont know) or even worse, his. You helped him to basically "gather" food and medicine. Thats totally different from going to war... I'm glad that SE isnt painting a romantic picture of the dragon war. (There are several, probadly later quests adressing that). That little dragon puts his trust in you because you seem to be different from the people fighting in the dragon war - ironic enough if you did that quest as a dragoon because, as I said already, you're basically THE person who should "lead" the Ishgardians into their fight with the dragons...

I dont say an alliance between dragons and mankind cant happen but I just cant imagine that any of us would be allowed to raise a dragon child into a warrior. Trust needs to be build beforehand and seeing that happen in our lifetime... 1000 years of war cant be forgotten and washed away in weeks.
(I'm sorry but lorewise I just have a massive problem with baby-dragons fighting beside you... in war)

...and even if I dont play dragoon and dont care - you should be aware of the fact that a pet would change the gameplay - a lot. Specially your damage output. And, if I remember correctly, one problem in FFXI was that your dragon-pet would constantly die, taking his dps with him? Having that dragon only to auto-attack would be a bit lame aswell, wouldnt it?

I do understand why you would like one (they're super cute after all) and I would (lorewise) sort of even like the idea of "exchanging" our (so mostly elezen) children against a dragon-child so we can learn more about each other first hand and try to overcome 1000 years of war and hatred. But sorry again - as Ishgards number 1 dragon-killer a dragoon might not be the first choice to teach a young dragon that we've changed. The battlefield (and, admit it, as adventurer you're hoping from one battlefield to another) might not be the right place to raise a young dragon and show him how peaceful we are... I'm just so glad that SE is taking things like that serious and therefor slowly most of the time... so I dont wanna see this rushed >.<

I don't think Dragoons will ever get a minion this late as they would have to redesign it from the ground up, and other classes have far higher priority for things that actually need fixing, (see: mudra, summoner pet glamour, PLD issues, whatever else). That being said, it would be awesome and I'd actually level a DRG to 60 if that were to happen.

... I just realized one thing: it'd actually be a dragonet companion/minion/pet if we were to get one, not a wyvern.

    Semantics.

Is Midgardsormr as companion and mount not good enough?

I hope we can help Tiamat in her grief and get her as a friend, too.

...You mean in just FFXI? Because with the exception of Ricard from FFII who was far closer to an evasion fighter than an actual dragoon until two remakes later when they finally decided to give him spear proficiency. Pretty much every other iteration of dragoons have been leaping spear weilders who really hate stuff with wings.

Bro? I'm just going to say this out loud to end this whole debate.

As a former XI DRG and proponent of having our Wyverns back, you're new. At least as far as posting to the forums go. Back in 1.0 and part of 2.0 there were MASSIVE threads dealing with this exact same subject. It's not going to happen. Yoshi P and those against having them because of Lore and because of, "This is not XI." have won out. So going to save you the flame war you're walking into and just tell you; move along.

Why don't they just make a chocobo sized wyvern and let you summon it like a chocobo and use it as your companion and level it up like a chocobo and make it exclusive to dragoons. Would be the same thing, but would only be useful where chocobo companions can be used.

I get why you want it though, in FFXI dragoons had Wyverns... It's not really a dragoon without a wyvern, more like a Pole Monk.
