I must admit that I didn't read what Wada said, but this general feeling about Casual Gamers I think that shouldn't be applied to a MMORPG. Casual Gamers will play at WII, PSP ( maybe in the bathroom ), NDS, ecc. Square-Enix made a game, Final Fantasy XIV, that needs a High End PC Hardware and a big amount of time to be played, and these are not the main features of a Casual Gamers. When they say now there are more Casual Gamers in the past, they are forgetting that now a lot of people play videogames, more than in the past, and who did is still playing. So what SE is trying to do, in my opinion, is to not care about the old MMORPG players but focus their strenght on catch a lot of these new kind of players, who probably will never play an MMORPG...

    P.S.
    I hope it's all understandble.

They should be cautious moving too much to casual gaming, imagine if movies became "casual" to the point that everything was a TV show, and there were no full length feature films.

You'd never have boundary pushing films that usher in new technology, like Avatar. Same applies to gaming.

Sadly, with gaming people hate things taking their precious seconds, as anything that does is "archaic and old and can't work in this era of gaming", so compared to movies, movies can push the envelope without complaint, but gamers are beyond fickle now compared to even 10 years ago.

Nintendo Power was doing tl;dr before tl;dr was cool.
My two favorite games are still FF Tactics and Baldur's Gate II (PC, not that PS2 thing), and neither of them can claim superior graphics compared to more recent games.

I've got Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, couldn't even get to the first village on 1, a wolf would always pop up and kill me.

Tactics is fun though, I like having to plan out two or three moves ahead during battle to get the best position for attack. Didn't they put FF Tactics on a phone at some point?

Nope, they made it a kiddie game for the gameboy advance and NDS.

I got FF: Tactics on the GBA. I did notice it was kinda different from what I'd seen of the original, but since tactics was never released on the PS1 in the U.K I wouldn't really know how much of it is different.

mobile wars have been going for a while now, it's the new thing. phone prices drop, heck i haven't payed a phone bill in like 4years http://www.ooma.com/ lol k enough with the commercial. but the next step was obviously cell phones and they are all in battle for the cash it crops. kinda sucks though, i'm starting to not like the direction the gaming industry is going in a whole at all. i'm with seif ...gonna soon just break out the old turbo graphic 16 or atari and say hell with it all.

Tactics Advance was one of those games that, on its own merit, is good, but fewer people like because they compare it to the original. It's also a completely different game. They did port the original to the PSP, but I never played it enough to know if I'd like the changes they made.

Quick money, yes, but not sustainable.
They are definitely not fads that will pass. Quick casual games are here to stay and will be more commonplace and there is nothing wrong with that. I like my angry birds when I have 15 minutes to kill while standing in a line. Thats what they are for, short term time killers.

PC and Console gaming will always be popular at the home.
