If I were you I'd be more concerned about his wanting to make repairs no longer craft specific...I just read yesterday on a Reinheart translate about yoshi-P is planning to put NPC for repairs on all camps for a cheap fee. In xample a metria g5 will cost 3,5k and a repair of high rank equipment will cost 5k. Until here i think all is ok.
But 99% repired item from NPC is not too much? I mean. You will quit repair importation on crafters. I realice crafters will be need it still to rpair till 100% to sell or trade and item. But is nt enough encorage to hold repair system on crafters. I thnk the 75% of repair from NPC will be good. I know you want to drawn gild from server. But if the npc repair dont work for that until now was for the prices and the lack of rings repairs etc. So. Whit that solved therea no need to 99% repIr npc. And whit the adittion of nit penalty on armor till 0%. Even more needless.
Repairs need to be as hassle free as possible or it will drive people away. repairs do not get good amounts of money, do not make crafts jobs more/less useful, does not add/subtract individuality or identity, and is not and should not be an important/sole reason for people to take up crafting and it sure is not a fun system. Crafts should be about making money and makng gear that other crafts can not make and that you can not find anywhere esle. (that is individuality and identity). THAT is where SE should make craft classes focus on. The materia system is a step in the right dirction and so is the new repair system with NPCs and such.
The only thing this game should be worring about is making it fun and filled with content. Not timesinks and annoying systems.

What they should do is have NPCs offer 75% repair and 90% (not 99%) repair options and increase the price of 90% repairs to take into account the skill level of the DoH required.
It is very time consuming to level DoH and that should be taken into account.
If they do implement this change to 99%, I'd like to see the SP for repairs increased to a minimum 500sp per repair.
It is easy for players to get their equipment repaired. It is that they are too cheap to offer a decent reward. I see many people offering 1 gil or ONE dark matter for repair fee when their probably sitting on over 4 million gil.
The fact is that you should offer at least one leves worth of gil above the cost of materials for a repair.

Honestly if they're offering the repair at cost, there shouldn't be any problem doing it. You're losing nothing. Even then offering 500-1000 gil additional on top of the item is acceptable. It really depends on how fast you want your equipment repaired. However with the new system, if you want it repaired by a crafter the reward needs to be less than the NPC cost if you're to save any money on it.What they shold do is have NPCs offer 75% repair and 90% (not 99%) repair options and increase the price of 90% repairs to take into account the skill level of the DoH required.

It might not be a problem for you, but I have a big problem with it. The same prople probably don't believe in tipping their wait staff.Honestly if they're offering the repair at cost, there shouldn't be any problem doing it. You're losing nothing. Every hour of synthesis I have to pay the NPC 2000 gil for synthesis support. Farming materials and crystals takes hours, days, weeks and months to level toe DoH job in order to be able to repair gear.
If it's "not a problem", then I suggest that they go level DoH themselves because I'm not repairing their gear for one dark matter reward.
Zoltan:
Players should not be ranking DoH to just repair gear. This argument that "I deserve this much for repairs because I ranked up DoH" is going away. Repairing at cost should be good enough because the gil will be in making and selling items and attaching materia. Not making repairs.

Maybe, maybe not. Planned changes are subject to change.Zoltan:

Repairing at cost is not good enough. It's BS. If you're cheap, then enjoy wearing your damaged gear. Maybe you'll be able to drop it instead of selling it when you're done with it.
I have no tolerance for people who do not offer a decent reward to someone who spent a long time working on a DoH job.
If you want to take the opposite opinion, that is your right. It may not be correct, but you have the right to that opinion.
Just say: "I'm cheap" and go about your business.
No. I think you're giving yourself a little too much credit.
I'm ranking up my DoH jobs just as much as you have. I've made so much gil off of grinding DoH that I have no real reason to try and squeeze more out of other players. You're talking like you're some big-time r50er who has nothing else to do besides repair other people's gear as your only source of income.
But here if you're that so desperately poor and starving for recognition... (tosses him a coin) You obtain the gil. Good job!
I think it should have stayed 75% but I ain't mad at all that they made it 99%.

I could care less about the gil.
It's about the principle.
Players earn 5-6k for a quick leve, 10's of thousands for simple quests and they cannot offer their fellow real player a small tip for helping them.
That is the point.
Maybe you have never worked in a restaurant as a waiter. You should try it sometime.
