Well considering the fact that it's a completely optional way of obtaining company seals, you don't have to do it. Also if you do well enough there is no chocobo chasing involved. The caravan moves on its own and if you kill the enemies fast enough it won't be stopped for very long.

Those referencing the Bombard event, I'd be willing to bet that was a test-run of part of the system.

I, however, will be doing this and enjoying my company stuff.
