Sort of. Urutan-Yensa and Gnath certainly are very similar, however the Gnath were designed to look more like insects, whereas the Urutan-Yensa are more humanoid in appearance.

Goblins, Qiqirn and Mamool Ja (amongst other monsters) were copy and pasted from FFXI, though. However I think those were put into FFXIV back in the 1.0 days.

I remember recognizing more designs (yes, I know that Mandragora and friends are a staple in Final Fantasies, but I just thought to point them out as well) when I first started playing XIV (some from Ivalice, some from other Final Fantasies).

With Dissidia, Fabula Nova Crystalis and others implying that there is cross-seeding of worlds (it is hinted that the universe of Final Fantasy VII is the future of Final Fantasy X, for example), you hardly need a reason for similar things to appear in Hydaelyn.

Are you talking about yoshida? The producer who wants every player to clear every instance because the game is made for all? The same person who goes out of his way to include bosses/beasts straight from FFXII and uses terms like sky pirates in his lore, made his art team draw viera concepts, and created an instance in uldah asking fans to share with him ideas because he wants us to be a part of it? Maybe you want us to go back to 1.0 where every decision revolved around not having a female roegady, not having a male miqo'te and bad decisions all around.

The sad truth is that the majority of the people who play FFXIV would not notice or care about the disappearance of female Roegadyn and that the lack of male Miqo'te would not change or hinder anyone from the playing the race, since the race itself was designed with a certain demographic in mind.

That's a thing that bothered me. The second Sky Pirates was mentioned (as a quest name), people automatically assumed Balthier and Fran would appear in Void Ark. Also, multiple race concept arts were drawn, not just the Viera. There was the wolfman, as well as this.

your defense is to split hairs, state the obvious, & toss out some generalities? it's pretty clear that the design was influenced by them. even if their obvious ' crab person ' appearance doesn't refresh a memory, their clothing and <click>ing are dead giveaways.

there are bestiary easter eggs from different numbered ff's all over eorzea. it's almost like something a franchise would do. or something. i'm glad another beta kid got to tell everyone they've been playing since beta, even though no one asked.

Point I was making is "since it's drawn, then it must be a 4.0 race!" (basically, pedantic) I already posted a link waaaay back on the first page where Yoshi-P talks about the Viera and then calling them Miqo'te with longer ears.

A couple months ago, you showed off the new race, the Au Ra… but you also showed concept art of the Viera, who appeared in Final fantasy XII and other games. Why did you decide against their inclusion as a playable race?

The issue with the Viera is that, if you look at them, they're basically humanoid save for their long rabbit ears and their heels. We already have a mostly humanoid race with animal ears in the Mi'qote. When we looked at those initial Viera concepts, it just seemed like a Mi'qote with bunny ears instead of cat ears. It simply wasn't different enough. Especially when we did the male designs… they didn't look beastly enough, they were just a little too cute. We wanted to make something that was original to the Final Fantasy series, and to do that, we decided to step away from the Viera.

I was actually strongly against showing the Viera concept art at the event we unveiled the Au Ra at. I knew that people would be like “why didn't you include them?!” [laughs] We feel we have a good thing with the Au Ra, though. If you don't like them, though, let us know and we'll take it into consideration with the next race we bring in.

Giruvegan called you out just now for nitpicking on something you have no argument against. Some would argue that what made roegadyn and miqo'te special was that they only had one gender. Should we go back to those days? Yoshida contradicts himself heavily when he decided to make female aura into more of a hyur.

What yoshida is bringing up is an excuse, not a reason. He wanted dragon/reptiles and it was the second most requested race type in that race poll. Your argument has no basis, it's an excuse (proven by what they did to female aura).
This thread is about the viera and they have the highest chance of any race possibility. You can't argue against this. If you have another preference let them know in another thread. Discussing the viera more you're giving us more exposure though. And more points as to why they should be included.

Did you know that FF has started a trend of racial types which became mainstays? Hyur, Hume, Mithra, Miqote, now Viera who are used in multiple games such as FF Tactics.

Back to the last sentence that Yoshida said. We, the viera fans are not happy that you ignored the majority of your fanbase. We want them as the next race.
