    yosh quote:
Allow me to lay down a scenario. A small group of hardcore players will skip sleep or the need to eat and jump into a high level battle right after it is released. These players will then be the first to obtain a shining rod that has devastating powers and can only be equipped by a black mage. Other players will gaze at these hardcore players with aspiration. However, in 3 months time, a solid strategy will be formulated and the difficulty level of the battle content will be adjusted too, allowing players “who cannot put their entire life into gaming” to eventually obtain the shining rod. On the other hand, the next battle content will arrive by that time and hardcore players will be able to continue challenging themselves. This is the ideal cycle for highest level items in end-game MMORPGs. (This is Final Fantasy so we plan on putting in slightly unusual features for items like Excalibur)

what i read in this is... we plan on doing way to many dungeons that are 8man rather then large scale events like in ffxi. also it means that everything u gain will become pretty much useless at some point so in reality u only want to gear one class. if others are needed maybe that too, but ehh u can grab it easier later down the road anyway? i don't like sound of anything he is spewing.

also for the looks and gear stuff why don't they just make those seperate ...think every mmo needs to start doing this, make the looks all obtainable same way as gears but looks stay as key items maybe ...and stats still work the same as always. that way we can pick how to wear what we want, u still need to get really great drops to look certain ways.

My summation of Yoshi's loooong post:

You can get cool uber gear with awesome stats that is Class Restricted from Dungeon/NM drops...

    and/or

You can get vanilla gear with little to no stats that is Cross-Class unrestricted from crafters but the vanilla gear can be optimized with Materia and has the potential to be more uber than the Class Specific gear.

Sounds like the proverbial Win-Win scenario to me.

Like said, I dont know why they dont just do a system like Aion/Tera/Gw where you can keep the look of an item but bind in the stats from another item onto it. So you get the stats you want and keep the designs you want. Another good feature of this is you can keep the Good gear and keep changing the design.

I also dont know why it is so hard to make stats for the different gear. of course mage should not be wearing plate, and then you make things like Defence equal for the level and put stats based on the gear type, plate with HP, Robe with mp, then have like enmity+, magic boost+, like XI did. Its not rocket science.

Expansion packs would basically slowly reset the situation when new, better gear would be introduced.
This is almost exactly what I was planning on writing. Even if there were a couple of tiers within an expansion cycle (e.g. Introduction, couple of patches add some additional content to develop horizontally on, next tier provides a few more new events over the course of the game's life, all roughly equally challenging but obviously really difficult). I really don't like WoW's cyclical endgame style anymore, everything you do feels redundant 2-3 months down the line and then you start all over again.

By the end of the expansion pack you're 7 times stronger than when you started, and nothing barring that last raid in the whole world feels like a challenge anymore.

I really hope he doesn't go down that road, he talks about making a modern MMO but that's a system implemented by one that's 6-8 years old, time to move forward?

Then allow us to make a "costume" have a separate interface where we can use gil to buy gear via a costume catalog much like a social network character appearance customization system. we pick the gear we want to appear to have on that will mask the gear we actually have on for "Stat" purposes. For example, Character has gear [equipped] that pertains to that classes stats to be effective in battle. (This armor you do not see unless you "Check" the player aside from weapons equipped) but what you really see when your actually looking at the character is their costume. Such as the full plated mage, underneath he/she actually has the proper mage gear for stats but what he/she's appearance is that of a full plate wearing individual how to tell what class they are is by the weapon equipped. mages can't use swords so it will be easy to tell "oh, thats a mage in a full plate costume."

The Full Plate Costume doesn't do anything to benefit the character except serve as what the player wants to look like at all times.

The gear the player actually works for and has equipped serves the players stats

Thus the problem is solved. Of course the player will have a choice wether or not he/she wants to show their equipped gear OR their costume.

While your making this system you can do physical character appearance such as hair, make up, skin tone, body mass, hair color, eye color, new body modifications and later for the price of real money you can charge for Race and gender changes FFXIV would then have a leg up over the competitions as far as Character Customization.

Inb4 "well what about the rare gear that looks cool that I worked hard to get but everyones using it for their costume?"
    - well its simple limited whats in the costume catalog and make exclusive equipment. Such as saying "In order to unlock this special skin you must first retrieve the rare in game items." BAM! instant achievements and in game MMO Unlocks I could go on.

-Fulfill this this required task to unlock this [hair style, tattoo, special gear skin, etc]

inb4 "well what if I only want some pieces of my equipped armor to be shown with my costume?"

    - Thats simple too! make it a check off list give each individual armor slot a check box, Checked boxes show up and unchecked boxes are hidden and replaced with nothing or a costume piece.

“Game producers can’t wear these types of clothing!”
I'll post about gear, classes, and required ranks but I can't stop rofl'ing.

You're not greedy Yoshi-P. I want the game to be competitive too.

Am I the only one who noticed the part at the end about a possible increase (or decrease) in storage space and number of retainers?

Isn't that the Materia System? You have a piece of equipment you like, you buy materia with certain stats for it, and you have a crafter imbed those stats into the equipment.

    I think it's more like:
    Iron Bill & Bronze Bardiche
The Bronze Bardiche is cooler than the Iron Bill (known fact)
The Iron Bill is more powerful than the Bronze Bardiche
    Merging System in process....
Iron Bill becomes Bronze Bardiche, without touching its stats

Of course, it would be more around the rank of the weapon. But if this has to be implemented there have to be heavy restrictions, or else you can't analyze battles in the videos ot understand their equipment, it would be a little confusional.
