Housing is to expensive also the way it's setup is horrible

This is a very tanka (Bad), ffxi, Everquest thing to do is make all housing available to only high level players with gold. I don't understand why each guild can't have its owned instanced housing or rather person. The era of Everquest died years ago people play MMOs and solo why not just give us our own instanced house or land?

Sorry if I am direct I am autistic and do not understand this model

Yeah they are VERY expensive, they don't offer any combat bonuses(far as I know) and we spent most of the time outside of them anyways!! It's not like a house in real life.

What makes you want to buy one if they don't provide anything you want?

Personally I like the system to a certain point. I like the instanced neighborhoods. I like how it's set up like Ward 1, Ward 2, etc. I like the price because it's a GOAL/ACHIEVEMENT to get one. Meaning it's something to work towards, which is always nice. It's another reason to play/reward for playing. I like how it encourages you to join a FC if you can't afford your own house (at the moment) or want a personal room.

What I do not like is how rarely they add new wards. I understand WHY they don't however. Housing is clearly a memory hog. Still I wish they dedicated more memory to housing.

They may be adding new wards...soon...ish though? They do have a plan to free up more housing, which will hopefully come in 3.1.

Actually, by your comment it's clear you did not play FFXI. FFXI's system of housing was that everyone was given a single room (a 'Moghouse') by default, and the whole point of the system was not simply to have a nice house to decorate and stuff, it was a specifically a way to stabilize the servers by providing an individual location that only the player's character inhabited by taking them completely off the game server - it was instanced for all intents and purposes. Hence the development team locked certain functions of the game inside the Moghouse for many years simply to encourage players to spend as much in there as possible (such as changing Jobs or using your inbox). You couldn't even invite others inside your Moghouse til circa 2007, due to the aforementioned server stability reasons (it was only ended up being changed when subs for FFXI had declined so much the amount of players logging into the game made it that such a stabilizing feature was no longer necessary).

I didn't mean to sound mean or nasty here (I'm really sorry if I did!), bit I just wanted to clarify that your comment that FFXI's housing system was nothing but a gil sink available "only to the richest players" was incorrect.

Tanaka? Huh? In FFXI we all had our own houses from the start...called Mog House. We didn't have to pay a dime for it or do anything for it..just a quick quest I think? He did good stuff and bad stuff, like any other game dev out there...

I rather play his game where stuff felt meaningful..than one where nothing holds much merit. -_-

Also MMO..solo? What? Just...what?? MMO...Massive..multi..PLAYER online, is this a troll post? >.< If people want to play solo, go play an offline single player game! Don't try to change what little is left of this poor genre T^T

In XI - housing was for all, the GEAR and weapons and so forth..that was reserved for people who had a lot of free time and could put in the work and effort. :P better that way, imho.

It seems like the problem with housing is that SE really wanted it emphasizde in the game, but quantity is limited and prices are high. There easy solutions are to de-emphasize housing by making those features available elsewhere, or raise the quantity. Since SE hard-locked the instances rather than held them off-site, they've gone the former route.

However, they could very easily raise availability (and solve their "abandoned plots" problem) by making the wards flexible. Every FC (and potentially account) could purchase an individual plot, but instanced (therefore, it gets called up from a storage server and spun into a new instance when people use it). Then, they could choose to set it up on a ward. If the FC or account isn't active to use the house for some period of time, the house goes instanced again, off the ward. If SE wanted to get fancy, they could let us purchase and edit wards as well, making our own "towns".

If people want to play solo they should play whatever the hell they want! I'm sick of people with that " oh it's a mmo, massive multiplayer, so it must be played with lots of people bs!" There's a reason people want to play this game solo: it's called they love the game, storyline, customization, holiday events, etc. And they just don't like playing with people, lol. As for the original poster, yeah they do need to organize the system a bit more. I'm personally waiting for the next patch to free up some land so I can buy my own plot.

you don't need a house for any of those things.

Housing is one of those things included in the "etc" comment by Pakonitan, There are many players that love customizing their own house. So I guess you missed the whole point?!
