Nah, Rowena is more or less the impetus for all the relic quests. Nedrick tells us to seek out Rowena to help us get better gear after the Ultima Weapon quest (The Weaponsmith of Legend). Then Rowena gives us the note to blackmail Gerolt into making us weapons. The quests are kind of like "hey Gerolt make a weapon for my bard OK" and he thinks of a cool old weapon for us. I'm actually not sure if we ask him to make a specific weapon or if he comes up the weapon by himself. I think I have a few relics left to check..

Gerolt suggests the weapon and I think only one of them has anything to do with the Allag. Paladin is early Ul'dah. Warrior is Hellsguard. Bard is early Gridanian. Scholar is Nymian. Monk is Ala Mhigan. Dragoon is Ishgardian. Ninja is early Doman. White Mage is Gridanian too. Black Mage is Mhachi.

You get the picture. The Zodiac weapons don't seem linked to the Allag in particular either. The Zodiac Braves are individuals throughout legend who have slain the Demon Zodiak whenever it reappears. It was the battle to kill the demon that gave the original Zodiac weapons their sentience.

However its worth noting that Rowena only put you in a position to force Gerolt out of his slump and once he started he kind of got into it. As much as they speak poorly of each other, at one point they were married and you get the hints that they kind of still do care a bit about each other even when they clearly don't get along. Rowena does turn up for a moment at the end of the Zodiac quests to see how it turned out.

Just a fun note: Rowena in Saxon mythology is the basis for Morgan le Fay, counterpart to the Knights of the Round Table.

So you're implying that Thordian is an evil King Aurthur? or are you implying that Amneic might become a more traditional King Aurthur archetype?

Huh, never noticed that was the DRK Weapon's Name Sake. I know the DRK reward for the Primal Totems is The Balmung and its namesake (As well as the name sake of my server) is The Blade of Sigurd in the Volsung Sagas. (Known as Gram, or Wrath, in the Original Material, in the Nibelungenlied Sigurd aka Siegfried, refers to it as Balmung.)

I think that makes Thordan more like Uther Pendragon, Arthur's father, who was a fairly despicable man.

Uther Pendragon was an insain tyrant and Arthur was his illegitimate son.

Could be seeing Aymeric turn into the leader of the New Order in Ishguard.
