    WHMs and their toolkits

Something I've noticed as I play more group content is the amount of WHMs I see who don't seem to use their entire toolkit. I almost never encounter a WHM who uses Asylum or Divine Seal (not sure about Tetragrammaton since that one is hard to tell but I haven't noticed it yet).

I realize Asylum's potency isn't very high, but it's still free, instant, and off the GCD, and works well combined with Regen - easy enough to throw it out after that. Not using Divine Seal seems inexcusable to me though. Why struggle to heal up the party after a big AoE when you can use that and make it so much easier? I don't see a lot of them using Presence of Mind either.

Is there some reasoning behind this? Offhand I want to say they're just bad, but some things about this game are weird, so.

There's only one reason behind this:

Preeeetty much what Lyrica said. Though White Mages aren't the only ones guilty of it. Pretty much everyone I encounter doesn't use half of their skills. Heck, while levelling my Dragoon, I was called a tryhard by a Black Mage for popping my usual cooldowns on the trash packs in The Vault. <.<

Besides having to gitgud, I'm guessing excessive paranoia. Despite the fact that some White Mages have done Fractal Continuum and Neverreap hundreds of times at this point and should rightfully know roughly how much healing needs to be done, they still need to save all their nice things for a real emergency.

I tend to save divine for very uh oh times like when another healer is dead and swiftcast is down. Asylum I generally save for trash packs, so I can set my tank up with that and regen, and then AOE spam until I need to swap back and Tetra them.

A lot may not use Asylum since they notice no one seems to take advantage of it. The amount of people who will stand just outside it, rather than take one step forward...

I think it's the fear of not having longer cooldowns available when you need them, but there's no need at all to be shy about using anything. If you use Divine Seal at the start of every large trash pull, it's available at the start of the next one. If you Holy spam to about half or a little less MP, use Shroud of Saints when you come off of Holy for one pull, use Assize as you are coming off the Holy spam on the following pull. One or the other will be available most of the time and the run is never slowed down. You can (and should) put Asylum up at the start of a large pull and at the start of the next large pull use Eye for an Eye instead. Again, one of them is going to be available for some pull when the other is not. As you near a boss you can lay off using Asylum or Eye for an Eye and use them on a boss instead, but I tend to use everything else pretty much all the time. Tetra I admit I save for when I need it because most of the time I am fine with a Cure II.

Point being really, it's just experience doing that, and seeing that when you do you aren't actually caught out any.

Depends on where and what is happening, I think the only thing I rarely use in the course of healing anywhere is Cure 3, but even that gets used sometimes if it's needed, Tetra is good for a party member that's just been hit hard by something and divine seal gets popped right before a regen once the tanks established aggro on a boss.

I'll only put asylum down on a very big pull if I'm gonna spam holy for a few rounds, other than that it barely gets used.

Divine Seal had a way longer CD till few months ago, maybe someone is still suffering the trauma of not having it ready in case of need.
That said, I love DS and nearly use it at CD to cast Divine HoTs + Asylum too and go full White Rage with Cleric Stance to punish the baddies!

Oh my I checked the 3.0 patch notes and it was indeed PoM and not DS that got changed, sorry for the mistake! Dunno why I was so sure about it, probably I just started spamming it more and felt like that :P
