If this is something you feel you want to do then I say go for it. I'll contribute anyway I can if it'd help develop it (as long as it's not drawing ), and there's no telling where it could lead. RedvsBlue started out as a fan thing, it ended up being bought by Bungie.
Blizzard have funded some rock bands that made warcraft-based songs.
You could end up being noticed by S.E and asked to work on possible forum/website art or other things. Never know till you try.

Heck with the rapidity and sheer size of my forum posts they may ask me to be a voluntary community rep XD I'd happily do it too, so I could pop up in forums with new info to tell everyone then talk with them about what they think about it. Constantly active Rep <> Community content discussions could do wonders for the vibe some of the forum threads have. (As well as shorten the time it takes for a troll to get banned since the Rep would spot them sooner)

I should spend 10 minutes writing a complete post rather than 30 seconds writing the baseline then another 4 minutes 30 seconds updating it with the extra stuff I wanted to say.

My forum posting is as bad as content updates, you only get it bits at a time and have to keep checking to make sure there's no upcoming changes.

Japan is full of more artists in one area than I have ever seen, anytime you go to a book store in Japan they have books sitting there and a sticky wall for people to post all their drawings. I have seen stuff in those places that rival the best well known animators. Also the books are amazing and they are usually signed by the artist. Don't get me wrong I haven't seen you work and you could easily be better than any of those people lol, just saying though.

Yeah but getting members of the community for this kinda stuff I would think would be better or a more clever decision than hiring someone. I mean, people talk to the the person making the artwork on the forum and in-game, that makes it feel a little bit more special.

And yeah Japan probably by now has the largest amount of artists in the world.

The complete opposite to that of course would be Disney.
