    Just to clear a few things up, PLD's can do Savage, just requires more gearing.

    As for the DRK + PLD magic Defense issue.

    The main Magic Defense for DRK is Dark Mind, it only has a 60 sec CD and combined with DA can reduce magic damage by 30%.
    For PLD and DRk they have Ramparts/Shadowskin Senitel/Shadow Wall.

    Both share Foresight which only reduces physical damage by increasing their Defence not Magic Defence.

    Don't forget Delirium and Reprisal (though gated by parry) from Drk add to the magic mitigation as well
