Personally, I suspect it'll be like a crappier version of WoW's timeless isle/tanaan jungle. Crappier because it wont have shared loot or hilarious PvP shenanigans. 50/50 chance of there being a currency to grind though.
Timeless isle wouldn't have been so bad if the spawns weren't dead by the time I got to them. .-.
Every time I see a screenshot of FFXI I'm amazed by the world design, even with the dated graphics the environments look stunning. It's like FFXI was Morrowind, and FFXIV is Skyrim.![]()
I actually expect Abyssea (and oddly enough, our AF2 shares the same names as XIs Abyssea AF3...), minus the stupidly overpowered buffs (so an improvement), since they mentioned killing hoards of "regular" (as regular as A Rank scale enemies can be) enemies with them dropping treasure chests, plus NMs and HNMs... If the NMs and HNMs are force popped I think XIVs Sky will be perfect... I hated Abyssea, but that was more because of the new level cap and sheer stupidity of Atma and the special triggering system (then again I was a Scholar, so Abyssea bent me over and then they ruined the Job to "fix" it, yes I'm still mad about Embrava, shut up, XIs Scholar was amazing, and being turned into an Embrava-whore was not). Farm these, to get that, to spawn that, to get that, to spawn that was a system I liked, balance being thrown completely out the window was something I hated... Thankfully, given regular trash mobs are apparently A Rank equivalent, balance should be fine, provided they're not actually A Ranks and the entire server jumps on them to completely remove any challenge... Other than that, they just need to make it rewarding, that actually has me somewhat worried I suppose...

I'd be very much for the Islands being a mashup of Sky & Abyssea, provided the minuses of both are left out (i.e. no obscenely long NM trigger spawns, no NMs that only drop crystals [Kirin], etc.). I do hope, however, that the devs ignore the Snowflakes who want gear to be rare as the Loch Ness Monster. Exclusivity is the absolute last thing XIV needs.



Some kind of blend of Sky and Abyssea would be amazing. This content will just be like hunts, Yoshi has already said the weakest mobs will be the same as hunts A rank, now few notes about that, hes compared it to hunts directly, non of the instance bosses just a direct comparison to hunts. We will encounter other groups of alliances, this can be like 5 whole alliances all we know, A rank hunts die in less then 30 secs as it is lol, this will be a zerg fest out of the game. Large scale content is fun that is when it doesn't die in 1 minute flat.
