It boggles my mind how every flavour of the month MMO can support a system like this, but Yoshida continues to use the server limitations excuse. Are they running FFXIV on a few million potatoes? A dead WildStar managed it, a F2P Guild Wars 2 did it and gave us a multicolour dye system and yet a wildly successful MMO can't.

Because of the armoury system and the already quite large inventory space compared to others MMOs, the data per character in this game is quite large.

The armoury system can store 200ish items (haven't checked), that's nothing in comparison to the potential thousands a wardrobe system would achieve. That's not the best comparison and just proves my point further. If it was an issue with data per character, then make it account wide similar to WoW's mount system. But of course they wouldn't do that, due to it actually requiring them to improve their archaic servers (I'm starting to believe what people say about them using old FFXI servers).

I have to agree with this one. They're following tradition, which may or may not be something mandatory to do. You'd be surprised about how many years it took my workplace, a state university, to finally acknowledge that shopping online can save millions of dollars for the school. Having to buy things like $2000 laptops from companies that we have a non-obligatory contract to, when the norm was around $800, simply because we couldn't purchase from online sources. Of course, that just meant other departments have more pointlessly expensive stuff within reach to buy, but I digress. I somehow doubt that SE is actively trying to keep with the times when it comes to advancements and what's out there, be it due to Yoshi-P or the higher ups.
