The fact that someone is saying that it's "not okay" to be bad at a game is just making me really angry.

I can never be good, I know that. My brain can't handle doing all the abilities needed for a proper rotation and I can't process seeing an AoE fast enough to be able to dodge it every time..then add endgame content with some stressful music with a fast beat and 7 other people yelling at me how much I suck.

But you will NOT tell me I am not allowed to play this game, because I LIKE THE GAME.

Not only that, I'm a young person with these issues. I have older friends who are basically shut in their homes because of their age and illnesses and FFXIV is their only fun they have left in life anymore, until I have to listen to them cry because some self entitled douche who for some reason thinks being good at a video game is some sort of accomplishment in life went and told them they should kill themselves for making their dungeon run 5 minutes longer than usual.

Most of those posts I notice the ones who post the most are the ones who are so one sided with the argument. Take speed runs for example, there is a middle ground, but the extreme from both ends makes things difficult. These issues have been addressed, but the bottom line is people on both ends do not want to listen. In the end the ones who don't post all the time are really the ones enjoying the game. I see these forums for the most part as the vocal minority. Or the ones like me who post while they're at work so we don't go insane 12 floors up.

Speed runs for example, has a middle ground. A tank might not feel comfortable pulling the whole thing, in return they pull half of what is expected. That is on them, there is no reason for the bard to run in and pull the rest of the mobs. On the other hand, I've gotten points where I didn't feel comfortable then suddenly went "Maybe I can take on more" because I have better gear or I know the party make up is good for it. The ones who want the whole speed run need to understand sometimes they have to slow down, the ones who slow down too much need to accept that over time they should try taking on more and it's not so difficult. Sometimes there is a "troublesome" mob in the group, and I'll see tanks mark that first, no one pays attention to it and makes my healing life a nightmare, others do.

Same with bad players, if you don't think you can take on certain aspects of the game then your only option is to try to get better or to accept that's not for you. Final Coil when it was released, and even alexander right now I know my SMN was / isn't ready for, as a result I do not take him in because I don't have the time to play so much. Bismarck EX, first time I went in and didn't have the iLV but my rotation was sound, but before that with the new 60 abilities I didn't feel that comfortable...in return I moved to a training dummy, no parser. I had people give me tips but even then there's a line.

There's a difference between someone going "What's your rotation?" and correcting you, I've had that. Then again I've seen people literally tell others to go take a barrel and open their mouths, and that the world is better off without them..that's not an exaggeration I've seen people become flat out mean and all because the player didn't use raging strikes at the right time. Someone had a kid who we had to stop for 5 minutes because she was crying, the response from a DPS was just gruesome because we were wasting their time before reset. Again, two sides if you feel your time isn't going to allow you to pay attention then do something else in the game, also if you are playing know that sometimes real life situations come up and things happen. That's me though, I've always looked at both sides and figured there's a compromise in the middle.

I understand your frustration, there are some people out there who refuse to learn. I have had PLD's refuse to use flash, DRKS who didn't have provoke or didn't want to use it because it wasn't good, summoners who didn't use pets because they felt their dmg wasn't good and used only garuda for bosses...I understand that it's out there but, on a large scale what can we really do? On both ends. That's a hard one for me to try to figure out.

I don't think anyone is going into an instance and saying "lets do this the slowest possible way". The tank STR thing has been debated to death. In 4 man content even 8 man primals a tank with or without STR gear is not going to make any noticeable difference in speed of completion. People are going to want to play at their own pace. Some people when rushed, make mistakes actually making the run longer. Tanks who aren't comfortable pulling large mobs won't, and if they feel forced to will either make mistakes or just leave, again adding more time to the dungeon.

DF groups I think we should all know by now are a box of chocolates. You're going to get all types. Trying to force people out of their comfort zones whatever it is are not going to want to be there, again possibly adding more time. When I enter a DF PUG group I know what I'm getting into. I'm expecting 30-40 minute run, if its shorter, cool, if its longer, cool, its no matter, did we win, yes, good. I entered that group at my own free will full knowing its a flip of the coin.

No ones time is more valuable than the others. Sound like a broken record with that one. No one is against a fast run. But it must be done with the group in mind, not your own agenda. Is the group clearing trash fast and can be sped up, do it. Is the group clearing trash slow, take it easy then. Otherwise a wipe, or someone gets fed up and leaves, again adding more time. Except for an occasional troll or bot, most people I truly believe are playing the best they know how.

Not good isn't the same as not trying.

The people who are not trying are the ones that annoy the the most.

At OP, basically other people are not you. This implies a different point of view.

I agree...if someone is bad at their hobby and not going to try at all and just say "Oh I'm bad and always will be bad"...why continue doing it if you don't improve EVER? Seems kind of a weird thing to do, almost masochistic lol. I mean no one is perfect, yeah..everyone makes mistakes, that is more then fine, but if there is no slight improvement ever..all that they are doing is wasting others time and making people miserable so they can have "fun". Seems very self centered.

All this talk about time makes me feel like people are gaming with a stopwatch in one hand.

Wasting time.. in a video game. Which in itself is a waste of time. So people are wasting other peoples time wasting time. /shrug

I say, as long as they're having a good time and not burdening anyone else, go for it!

I actually had a friend who did that...played with a stopwatch LOL. Dunno if everyone views a hobby as a time killer though, I certainly don't have hobbies to kill time, I have them to have fun and its great ways to meet new friends
