Yeap what is SE thinking, they should let the tank pull all the mobs and the bosses clear through to the end of the dungeon. Kill them all in one fell swoop.

I'm surprised that for the most part so far the posts have been in agreeance but I was also hoping to get some discussion going from the people who tend to post stuff like "report the guy parsing hes the root of all evil!!!" Since they seem to respond in swarms to support those who have been "victimized" by the guy parsing.
I really am curious as to knowing the reason behind this and I'm sure others are as well.
And the fact that there's 2 threads weekly about topics having to do with dps further reinforces my point, it's an issue but why is it such a big issue here?
I've never seen poor dps discussions so much on other MMOs, so I guess another question would be; are rotations too hard?
Life's a tease.
If you are skilled/geared enough to handle it, I ask you why not do that?
It'd definitely not be an easy feat so the fact that you could do so should be rewarded.

too hard is subjective. they have gotten harder since 3.0, that's a fact.
i don't know why WoW doesn't have this problem, but you don't see this on other MMOs because most of them don't have the same size of a playerbase. the larger your playerbase the more you're going to have in terms of range between player skill.
Rotations are not too hard at all. I have only had problems with poor dps in a couple of DF runs. Mostly occurs when new content comes out which is a gear problem or encountering new players who dont have proper gear yet. Even then I will sometimes run across the runs where it feels like the melee dps is hitting the enemies with pillows.
I simply play for the lore of the game so I dont mind if a run is slightly slower than normal. But many people have 0 patience so if the burn isnt fast enough, then people will complain. And if it happens repeatedly, then people will come to the forums and complain.
You just have to understand that not everyone is a good player. But I will say that I have encountered more good players than bad players thats for sure.
WoW has rotation problems. Every single MMORPG that has a rotation has this problem. With WoW though, it's slightly alleviated due to how things have evolved throughout the years. Some classes are so streamlined that it's essentially PLD combo to do your main part of the rotation with some cooldowns thrown in. They even added in a help section to your abilities window that shows the basics of how you play each individual class and spec. Still, it doesn't stop some folks from not following it.too hard is subjective. they have gotten harder since 3.0, that's a fact.

One huge reason why it comes up a little more in FFXIV is because the devs make content that depends on DPS working together. With the exception of Heroic mode raids in a game like WoW, there's very little fear of the consequences for having sub-par DPS in most relevant content. There, a decked out DPS is essentially capable of output triple (or more) that of a fresh max level doing non-raid content. Not quite the same here, in that you wouldn't even hit double. Combine that with what you said about playerbase size between this and non-WoW MMORPGs and it makes it all the more noticeable that things are slower here.

Because the general population of players here are mindless drones with, at best, tunnel vision. Speed runs became the expectation out of every single player. Just hit level cap as a healer, still in lower gear, and trying to get tomes/dungeon drops so you can have better output? Tough shit. The tank (or whatever other role) will fully expect you to heal/tank/dps as though you were decked out. If you can't keep up, even in fresh gear, you're a shit player and should DIAF. I'd say the grand majority of my groups, back when Brayflox HM SRs were a thing, had at least one person in most groups with an attitude like that. I mean, people still do this sort of stuff now. Tank (or DPS) pulls when healer is low on MP after a big pull and spent cooldowns already. Good job nub. This community has proven time and time again that if we're given an inch, we'll take (or expect) a mile. Then again, I wouldn't expect any less from any other part of life itself.

These threads only tend to see in black and white, either you a great player or a horrible player. There is a large amount of "ok" players mean they could be better but they are not bad players either but people tend to just write them off as bad players anyways. That what needs to be addressed.
People generally aren't encouraging putting in less effort. There are people who do this, yes, but the issue lies with those who treat the game as a job. I don't mind being parsed at all, and if the person parsing me (or anyone at all) has suggestions on how I can raise my DPS, then I'm all ears. My concern is the condescending attitude that those people tend to get when doing so, especially when you're just running content you've already done literally a hundred or more times and you're just trying to relax while grinding tomes. In that situation, someone calling me out for not realizing Hotshot fell off 10 seconds ago would really, really frustrate me.
That applies only to DPS; when I heal or tank, I really prefer to find my own method and figure out what works for the party, not be told how to do it. A recommendation is well appreciated, but an order is not.
With that in mind, I believe that the problem really goes both ways. "Efficiency" players shouldn't expect their level of focus and commitment to "relaxed" players, but relaxed players should try their best when in a more serious and focused party. There just needs to be understanding from both parties. As much as there can be, anyway. Otherwise, they should really try to party up with like-minded players.
