Adding buffs to melding will not break the economy. The game already does this on the other side of the equation by providing buffs to speed up spirit bonding. There should be food and Free Company actions available to buff melding success.

Alternatively, I would love a method that allows me to use more than 1 materia on a meld to increase the success of the meld. If a meld has a 10% chance of success, I would gladly use 10 materia for the meld if that meant 100% success just to remove the pain that comes with streaks of failures. This would have zero impact on materia demand and economy as the statistical average would remain the same.

    That would be really neat!

Materia melding is not bad per se...but the fact that some times you're required to almost max meld your gear, including meld materia with 7-8% success rate, to be able to craft new recipes is a very high barrier to entry that I fear will just lead to a situation where the wealthiest crafters will be the only crafters that can survive in the economy.
I don't know the solution, but I really like the idea of giving an extra melding slot for HQ gear.

Well, I'm against that. I'm not interested in playing a game where it's easy for anyone to achieve anything they want. That's boring.
You seem to be equating Gil with difficulty. RMT sellers rejoice!

Melding requires no difficulty, just an aburd Gil sink.

Signed. It's weird to me that there is absolutely nothing that influences meld chances, not even just a tad.

Another thing I would like is the ability to meld regardless of current class. We're able to repair on any class; I don't see why melding has got to be any different.

Overmelded gear is supposed to be a luxury.
Well, that hasn't always been the case. There have been points where you *NEEDED* overmelds in order to be able to craft/gather all the things.

    It's a luxury for DoW/DoM, maybe.

I also think there should be some food buff to increase meld chance. There is food buffs for pretty much every other activity from battle buffs, gathering buffs, desynth buffs, crafting buffs and even spirit bonding buffs but nothing for melding currently. The excuse of food buffs for melding would hurt the economy is not a good one, same reason food buffs for crafting has not been very detrimental to sales of crafted goods or food buffs for gathering not really hurt the economy either. We also have spirit bonding food buffs to help gather those materia's in the first place yet still no food buffs for attempting to use them. There is no good excuse that I can see as to not having a food buff for melding success chance increase too.

I know this isn't what you mean, but PSA: I believe HQ has higher overmeld success rates than NQ, all else being equal.

Except for the part where the design of red scrip gear is meant to let you attempt every recipe without needing to meld at all.
That was one of the main features of the system when they started making it so unless they totaly botched that up to this is all moot and people should stop trying to do something they clearly don't want to do and just buy the scrip gear with their tokens.
If anything this is the first time you don't need to meld at all to be able to craft end game recipes.

24%? 19%? Those don't sound like the numbers of someone who seriously overmelds. Try 6% on a grade 4 materia. On multiple items. It's not okay. It's a pointless gil sink and to be competitive you HAVE to do it. The overmeld system is a punishment in its current state, a chance to improve the odds of success would be nice.

I think a very simple solution to this would be to increase the margin like 3% for the next grade materia across the board. So for example if Grade 1 has a 6% chance on the last meld then grade 2 would have a 9% chance, 3 would have 12%, 4 would have 15% chance on last meld. This would somewhat negate the price loss by equalizing demand to some degree because the increased percentage would maintain that demand.
