I think that's how most Guild Wars 2 melee worked, with certain exceptions like daggers. I haven't been there in over a year though, my memory could be betraying me.

I can't speak to GW2, but in GW1 the dervish was the only class whose autos and (most) skills were frontal cleaves with that giant scythe they carried. It was a neat change from the rest of the melee classes, to be sure, but WAR/DRK absolutely don't need any help in threat generation, let alone AOE threat in DRK's case.

Ongoing mission: Tank everything on DRG. On purpose.

All melee slashing weapons should cleave.
All Piercing Weapons should have +1-+2 Range.
All Blunt weapons should do more damage to armored targets.
However auto-attack does not really help much with threat. Gaining cleave would increase your DPS a little bit but it wouldn't give you a huge chunk of threat.

But why would NIN have an Auto attack cleave?![]()
How about they give all tanks a buff for when their standing still. Marauder had this in 1.0 where if they stood still all attacks became cleaves.

Actually I think the original combat design of 1.0 was for something like that. Lancers wer supposed to fight from a safer distance and be able to pierce stuff in a line. It be great if we could get back the battle system that let us damage a certen part of mobs to cause more damage.

In GW2 I move around less then I do in FFXIV. FFXIV is way more dodgey.. lolActually I think the original combat design of 1.0 was for something like that. Nah not really, when you take into account the fact that Warrior has four AoE's (Flash, Steel Cyclone, Overpower and Decimate,) you already have enough cleaves. I'm not to sure about Dark Knight but they're in possession of AoE's that can be spammed (granted neither of the two would benefit from spamming those abilities, but the point still stands: why give them more when they already have more.)
The only job that would make sense to be given a cleave of some sort would be Paladin in regards to its shield. It'd also have to be given to Paladin in such a way that it would make sense: a proc from Shield Swipe that you have the option of clicking or ignoring sense in some situations it would actually be detrimental (Ravana Extreme is the first thing in mind.) The reasoning for this is that a cleave given to Warriors and Dark Knights for their auto attacks would actually be problematic as they can't control it. Which from a design standpoint is extremely bad.
EDIT: Even on Paladin it would be bad since you'd have to designate it to only Pacify the enemy targeted or it would be considered OP.
EDIT II: Actually from a design standpoint, any sort of cleave would be bad since we're required to be surgically precise in places like (King Mog Hard/Extreme) while micromanaging the smaller moogles.

I think Paladins should have "Two" autoattacks.
Their shield as blunt, sword as slashing.
"Just an Auto Attack" means that in Ravana Extreme the butterflies start casting immediately while the group is attempting to work any of the four or five of them down in groups of two. A learning/farm party will potentially wipe because of that Warrior or Dark Knight if everything else goes according to plan. I don't wish things like that even on my enemies. It makes a person feel miserable when they're at fault for the struggle people face.
