    It depends on whether you're trying to convey childish machismo while you splatter hordes of aliens or the complex range of emotions needed to form the atmosphere of a RPG. In the latter case, you'd be hard pressed to find a better tune than FF6's opening. Of course, the music you propose could be used for things like battle scenes, but it would never set an atmosphere for any kind of typical RPG progression scene.

    I think Sega did pretty good with the soundtrack to Resonance Of Fate, awesome game too, though a fair bit of it was also orchestrated. There was a fair bit of guitar in it though.

    But yeah, usually:

    Electric Guitar = Action games/scenes
    Orchestra = Plot sequences/RPG's

    You couldn't picture Tifa running around inside Cloud's memory, watching scenes of the past unfold to a tune from Disturbed or Nine Inch Nails could you?
