I think the fact that they didn't show blood then Raubahns arm was chopped clean off, and yet we saw blood when Haurchefant died made it pretty shocking for me. Like a big "HE IS DEAD AND NOT COMING BACK!" scene.
And the reason why his death seems more tragic to me, is that he was more... I dunno, normal? I mean, he didn't have any magical powers, he was just a knight who was your No.1 fan... The fact that he was quite ordinary made him special to me... He gave some nice comedic relief from time to time too....
Him gone, makes the world seem so much darker for me somehow.

(That and I fangirled him probably just as hard as he fangirled my character. )

Someone on tumblr had posted the German version of his death. When you take his hand he laments that when he finally able to be so near he can barely feel your touch before asking you to not be sad for him. Q_Q

Well, I dug around a little when it came to translations of Haurchefants dialogue in other languages.... Turns out he is soooo pervy when you first meet him in the japanese version XD

Stop commenting on my appearance and inviting me to your bed chambers!
(I play with the japanese cutscenes and I always wondered why my character would look so shocked by the things he said, when the english text was so harmless XD) (We also missed out on a hilarious Alphinaud-entering-the-room-and-cock-blocking-Haurchefant scene)

Well as we know when Haurchefant lays dying in the English version he says "You...you are unharmed? F-Forgive me... I could not bear the thought of...of... Oh, do not look at me so. A smile better suits a hero..."

In German it's "Odd…We’re finally so close, and yet ...I can hardly feel you… Now, don’t be sad… It doesn’t suit you…my hero…"

It gives the impression that he's been longing to be close to you but hasn't been until that moment. And that moment IS the very first time we see the Warrior of Light touching someone. Touch is usually a big no in this game due to the insane size differences between playable races.

After he dies a number of NPCs, including Aymeric, comment on how they knew he was special to you in particular.

Aymeric: Haurchefant … I know, the two of you were close … Excuse me, I do not mean to be indiscreet...

Darn this game. Making me mourn pixels.
