Sport?
I am not competing with you when I level my jobs.
I level jobs because it is fun for me.
You have nothing to do with the reason I level my jobs.
There is no sport if there is no competitor.
do you honestly think an MMO where everyone can just cheat and get anything would ever be a success?
Neuroscience has shown humans gain large amounts of satisfaction from being better than those around them (ingame terms: having e-peen gear). This is a large part of why capitalism works. So knowing that, do you really think people want a game where everyone is automatically and forever essentially equal?
Mew!
Cheat?
It would have to be against the rules of the game to be considered "cheating".
If the game rules stipulate players have the option to choose to level jobs themselves or to choose to have jobs instantly leveled by the game, there is no cheating when a player chooses either of those options.
ok so let me put it another way, if FFXIV allowed everyone to choose their level and warp anywhere and stuff like that, do you think it would have players?Cheat?

Ask them if you want to know.
I don't play games to compete, I play them because I find the game play fun.
So personally, I do not care about if others are equal to me in the game or not.
Now I've only asked for sources once in this thread and I was wrong for doing so, but you're making a giant appeal to authority here if you don't back up this statement with a source.do you honestly think an MMO where everyone can just cheat and get anything would ever be a success?

It's not so much they feel better by being ahead of those around them. What the most recent of studies I'm aware of show is that people don't want those directly beneath them to get ahead of where they are. In fact, a person would rather see someone far behind them get a little further ahead than the have the people directly beneath them catch a break.
So if you reached rank 50 today and they announce that going from rank 1 to 20 just got easier, you don't really care. But if the announcement was that going from rank 40 to 50 just got easier, well, a picture says a thousand words:

Oh, and I even have a source for these crazy ideas I'm spouting:
