In fact, while I am at it, there are many things that make me think there is no real, definitive design strategy.

Once Yoshi mentioned "bringing FFXIV to standard". He said that there were lots of things "MMO players" (ha, like they're all the same!) expect from an MMO which FFXIV doesnt have. And that he intends now to implement these things.

So then you have to wonder: "is there anything else to his leadership than imitating what other MMOs have done?"

That doesn't inspire much enthusiasm. And quite frankly frightens me, because FFXIV is quite an atypical MMO in many respects and I'm glad of it! I just hope he shows some restraint when he hacks away at the game with the pretense of standardising it.

Once Yoshi mentioned "bringing FFXIV to standard". He said that there were lots of things "MMO players" (ha, like they're all the same!)They share a common thread. expect from an MMO which FFXIV doesnt have. And that he intends now to implement these things.Like proper controls, an involving storyline, a sense of danger, ties to the game world, a mount system etc. etc. They are very broad things. People expect very broad things from an MMO because it's such a broad demographic.

So then you have to wonder: "is there anything else to his leadership than imitating what other MMOs have done?"There might not be. I'm sure if you look deeper you'll find that there is, but if that's as far down the rabbit hole as you wish to go then you're safe to make that assumption.

That doesn't inspire much enthusiasm. That sucks. He doesn't need to. He needs to make good on his promises and be trustworthy. That's his first priority. You don't have the patience, that's your own fault. If enough people think like you then the game will suffer. Then that's the way it will be. Fortunately he stuck to trying to regain trust, but to do that he's not going to make outlandish claims. Read the 4gamer interviews then you'll know. And quite frankly frightens me, because FFXIV is quite an atypical MMO in many respects and I'm glad of it!As am I but they circumvented one of the major things that I thought made it stand apart. I just hope he shows some restraint when he hacks away at the game with the pretense of standardising it.He probably will but he'll design with that philosophy in mind and attempt to differentiate XIV through other means.

Start studying. The quotes I provided in the second post are a good start.
