    You absolutely can do that. Square Enix isn't stopping you. In fact, there is more in-game evidence supporting the notion that SE wants Tanks to go VIT than any particular alternative.

    Do what makes sense to you. Wear the gear that you have the most fun wearing. As long as you perform the duties of your role, a few stat points either way will never magically prevent your party from clearing fights in the content you intend to participate in.
