No, they're there to set records not to set the meta.

I'm sure most statics are smarter than the average DF player and understand that the numbers listed in that sheet are exceptionally high but it definitely cannot hurt to push yourself to obtain similar numbers.

With that said it's just like our version of the guiness world records, why not have them for amusement?
I've yet to be told ever in the game that my numbers are bad because I'm not doing the same dps as the world record, and if I was ever told that you best believe someone would get made a fool of real quick.

I understand that this is the ffxiv forum, the most negative place on the internet where everyday it's doom and gloom and everyone thinks the world of eorzea is going to end at any second because of the "toxic elitists who poison the game" but even some assumptions get a bit too ridiculous

Thanks for putting words into my mouth and vilifying me.

I'm not sure statics are "smarter than the average DF player" considering ignorant behavior has existed since 2.0.
I was in multiple Turn 5 groups, both in a static and PUGing, that would either chastise or talk behind the back of a DPS who had "low DPS" without taking in account that they were constantly targeted by conflags or the dreadknight. All most people care about are the one simple big number, not any practical application of those numbers.

Believe it or not, when people start becoming accustom to higher and higher numbers as people purposely try to "cheese" their DPS numbers to get on the leader boards they'll expect higher and higher DPS on average; even if it's not a typical number for a certain group composition or for how that group operates in general.
No. They won't expect the "world record" numbers, but if you think they'll even look at numbers below the first 20, which could easily all be "cheesed", you've got another thing coming.
FFXIV isn't a single player game. Comparing DPS numbers in a leader board style outside of a dummy parse on an individual basis is useless.

I should point out that my site (FFLogs) has a big prominent Compare button at the top of all reports. You can use that to search through recent parses with a fight length similar to your own.

Usually people cheesing and doing silly things on farm like add-padding will also have short fight lengths too (because of their high gear level), so by using Compare, you can find fights more like your own.

You can also use Search Fights... at the top of the global rankings pages to filter by raid comp in addition to fight length, so you can look only for compositions similar to your own.

Oh this is your site? Let me tell you this then...

    GREAT JOB!

It's nice to have one of these kinds of sites for FF after having them for so long in WoW and even Wildstar. I find them most enjoyable. Even if people draw terribly tenuous conclusions.

I wonder how many people are being driven mad by Alice Lovelytroll's (best name) Faust parse.
