Tbh I think the soundtrack is too guitar/techno heavy.. I miss the whole flutes and orchestral buildups of previous FF soundtracks.. This is too futuristic where the game is not.
For all we know. Down the line the sound direction could make sense. E.g:

If you first hear this while being new in FFXI it doesn't fit anywhere else in the game you have access to early on -- it doesn't even fit any of the early-mid game dungeons designs.
XIV's soundtrack is more upbeat/synth driven because the game is a lot more upbeat and as we unlock/get new areas it'll all make sense.
I don't see what's so wrong with it.

^^^ SOUNDS SOOOO EPIC
and btw I think it's fine to post this since it's already in-game?
I don't dislike it.. I just don't think it's very Final Fantasy-esque.. Unless you use XIII as the example in which case it's amazing.
Some zones are amazing. The cities and the surrounding areas.. Mor Dhona.. Coerthas. A few of the Cut scene themes.. The title theme.
Just not the battle themes / Leve themes.
I really love this game's OST, and is one of the best in the series, IMO. The main battle themes are pretty regular, but most "event" ones are made of awesome, such as the boss themes (most already in the game). Coerthas and Mor Dhona's area and battle theems are also great. Many of the cutscene songs are well done, as well as the villain themes (just the song that plays when Garleans are on screen already shows whatever is gonna happen, it's not gonna be good.)
Mistbeard Cove's theme is also one the best dungeon themes I've seen...it has a Yasunori Mitsuda feel that's plain awesome.
Also, about the "rockness" and stuff, the world is not that devoid of technology. It really doesn't blend well for some areas (The Black Shroud themes being the biggest ofender, that place REALLY IS devoid of technology), but in general it works pretty good.
Can't wait for an official full OST release......mostly because I need to know that obvious "final boss theme"'s name.
I guess I can agree with you on XIII having great music. Sometimes I listen to my playlist on youtube of XIII music while playing XIV ^.^I don't dislike it.. I just don't think it's very Final Fantasy-esque.. Unless you use XIII as the example in which case it's amazing.

I like to listen the FFXIV chocobo theme on youtube while I'm walking somewhere XD It's so much fun that way
Exactly my feeling when I play, but as others posted, when I started messing around on youtube, I found the soundtrack amazing, but I have not heard most of the good tracks yet in game.
