Pretty much what Ashkendor said, I never DF Alexander because it's more RNG against you, Did 4 A4 runs today and everyone got loot and left happy. I do this every week and I never have to suffer against randoms rolls.
People still run Alex normal?
Kidding aside, yeah it can be a cruel mistress but we never complain when she plays in our favor.....even if I didn't need that item I randomly clicked greed on.
Tried to get bolts last night. A1 10 runs, not even rolled 25+.
Oh well, let's get the spring or shaft before I go to sleep.
Ran A4 9 times, my rolls didnt even reach 50 on shaft.
on the 9th run, rolled 89, wow nice...!
Then someone rolled 94.
19 runs last night.

In alex normal duty finder, whatever item you want, everyone is gonna roll on it and the rest will hit the floor.
Once you have given into the despair of that, you are set free. :P
But seriously, if I want a bolt, then everyone rolls on bolt. Next week, I want something else, well that thing is the only thing people want. I've accepted it. I mean, I don't need to go. I'm like working on a 3rd job now. Mostly I just go to cap eso's and maybe gear some job I'll never play.

26 Sohm Ai Runs, no Greatsword.
1 Sohm Ai Run on this character, Greatsword first try.
Don't need it on this character.
try rolling 87 to be beaten by a 98

Not so long ago they fixed a bug with RNG in FFX / X-2 HD...
In all FF games you could influence RNG a bit (more or less)...
I am not sure if they are using the same one for FFXIV too, but here a nice quote:
originalThe rng in this game functions in the same manner it did in all the final fantasies up to XII. The game simply has a giant internal data sheet of numbers that it cycles through. I'm really actually surprised more people on this board don't already understand how it works, it was a huge deal and almost necessary if you tried to 100% complete ffxii.

Say you attack some stupid enemy. The game will source from this data file the base 'rng' roll from the current position in the data file that it then uses in the rest of the attack damage calculation. It'll then move to the next set of variables in the file. Each set in the file has a predetermined number for any rng based action in the game. How many steps till the next encounter, which enemy formation it loads, death spell success, everything. As it uses up variables and moves through the data file, it gives the illusion of true randomness, but it really isn't.
The thing about it though, is the file is huge. Probably thousands of strings long, making it nearly impossible to predict what is going to happen next. And the game has a few of these files it picks one of each time you play.
What's happening with the bug is every time you start the game it's starting over at the beginning of the same rng file every time you load. Hence making what should be unpredictable predictable. That's the basic idea of what's going on with the rng. Why it's happening I have no clue.
RNG is a necessary evil for video games. It's a gate that extends the life of content. You can either roll the dice and take the chance OR they can make you earn it... by saying after 100 clears, you're guaranteed a drop.
