missing dual slot armor after ilvl70?

Is it correct that the ilvl70 "Heavy Darksteel Armor" is the last set of its kind? I like the idea of this massive 2 slot occupying armor, yet there are no new versions after ilvl70?

It also seems not possible to glamour the 2 slot versions on to normal 1 slot versions?

So please SE add some more crafted versions of those massive armor sets to the game!

    No please don't

The heavy darksteel armor was ugly and expensive at the time when tomes of philosophy were a thing.
It also hindered gear progression for tomes of mythology and coil drops, because you'd be stuck with a lv90 body and lv60 hat (or lv90 hat and lv60 body) for a few weeks since there was no level 70 or 80 single piece gear for either head or body.
The crafted version is just as bad.

So I'm glad they never used this 2 slot crap ever again after that.

One thing that shocked me is that the GC seals you get from trading this heavy darksteel armor is the same as any other single piece darksteel thing, which is unfair considering back then it costed way more than any single piece.

Hello Andy, I think you're probably one of the rarer people who enjoyed that kind of merged Head+Chest / Pants+Boots armors. Most people I've talked to disliked them, saying their characters look like a mail box in these armors. Anyway, I'm actually glad to see someone with a different perspective and likes them! I always thought they were pretty bad azz.

However, from a crafter's perspective, these armors do have their problems. The most obvious being the Head+Chest piece only able to take up 5 materia in total despite having 4 slots. This is a big deficit in secondary stats comparing to Head & Chest pieces each melding with 5 materia individually.

From a glamor person's perspective, they're nightmares - as these armors cannot glamor over any separate pieces, and the separate pieces cannot glamor on these armors either.

And to answer your primary question - yes, the heavy darksteel armor is the last of its kind.

I like the look because it makes me look like Alphonse Elric from FMA http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Alphonse_Elric i mean how cool is that!

After trying to understand what a "pentameld" is and what the tank str vs vit debate is all about, i understand the "endgame" drawbacks of such armor. Yet i liked the idea that i can craft my own leg armor as armorer and do not have to rely on wearing this weak leather crap

Its a unique looking type of armor set and i simply wondered why it randomly stopped being offered, for no reason.

PS: I just hit 60 yesterday and i also do not understand why this i180 crafted armor is none existent on my server? I would expect that some people might ease the LAW grinding, by buying some i180 armor. I stopped armorer at ~lvl30 so no idea what the problem is for this high end crafted armor type.

I don't know how many people would be willing to dish out 10-20 million gil (the i180 crafted gear would cost about this much *per piece*) to save themselves a few runs of a dungeon (to get the required law), but to each their own. I think that might explain the non-existence of the armor ..

Seriously. The requirements to get the ingredients to craft ilvl 180 armor are hellish, and what few ingredients crafters manage to scrounge together they typically spend making crafting and gathering gear - and even that, they usually make for themselves, not to sell. The materials are so low in supply and high in demand that they cost a fortune to purchase, and that means that crafters need to charge an even greater fortune for that equipment to be worth selling. Far more than a typical non-crafter has available to them. Crafted combat class armors are pretty much a huge joke, except no one's laughing. :P

They actually made a few sets of armor after those i70 pieces that were the same basic style but had the head/body and legs/feet pieces as separate pieces (check out the i90 PvP gear for instance). You can still get that kind of look without it needing to be a dual-slot piece, so there's no real reason to continue with the dual-slot stuff given the mechanical issues with them.

I'm told SE is adding a feature to glamor the 2piece sets like darklight tank/healer pieces as well as the chocobo suit and OG odin outfit.
