I have a feeling that, due to Playstation VR being in the early development stages and FFXIV not having native VR support that this may not happen until 4.0, which could also be the time that FFXIV cuts ties with the PS3.

That said, I am all for this!

I think SE will wait to see how quickly VR catches on and based on sales they may look into eventually adding the tech to accommodate players. Could be part of the reasoning behind the demo, I mean it is kinda odd for them to only now demo VR for a game that has been out for so long.

the biggest thing they would need to tackle would be positional awareness basically were you are in 3d space and how to convey that to your brain properly once you have that doing stuff in VR would be as simple as adding prompts to the HUD and other things like making it so you can see your arms weapons in first person hell even hair draping down hat clothes any thing to amp up the immersion to the game i think if there's interest and money in it SE might just do it who knows

i mean look at ff7 remake what started out as a simple tech demo is now going to be a full blown thing primarily cas of the fans not giving up

That was a joke. The PS3 can't even handle Mor Dhona/Idylshire properly, let alone Oculus/VR

To be fair the PS4 struggles with populated areas too, rendering the game twice would cause the performance to plummet unless they add an option to lower the visuals to something on par with how the PS3 has it. Not just the PS4, most, if not all low to mid-end PCs will struggle in raid environments and populated areas. 30 FPS isn't enough for anything longer than 10-60 minutes of gameplay (I guess it will vary from person to person, but everyone has their limits. Here are a few quotes from the found of Oculus (if you're not aware, Oculus are pretty much the guys who started this recent VR trend).

For VR you need much higher frame rate than you need on a typical screen.
60 frames per second is definitely enough. You see huge improvements up to 90 and 120hz, and even beyond that you can see small improvements.
Virtual reality is going to need much higher frame rates than consoles.
Although even for consoles or traditional PC games I don't think 30 frames per second is smart. It's not a good artistic decision, it's a failure.
