Frontline PvP: Tips for Dragoons Pt.2

Made the first thread like this a while back. First part is here http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...s-for-Dragoons I'll just go over the rotation I use in PvP, as well as other stuff. If you can get it down, you can kill anyone you target, even rushing a party. That's how fast and hard it hits. It's about taking the enemy teams healers by surprise and killing them, hopefully making the party retreat while your members pick off the rest. It has the potential to kill a few, but not easily done. Something always goes wrong, most of the time it's improvised, but this is the rotation I shoot for in PvP & practice on at the Wolves Den Pier. I've tried many different combos in different orders, this is what I found to be the best.
    1. Phase 1: Hard part about this is gauging the distance and popping your CD's so by the time you use the last one (Internal Release) you're ready to start phase 2. Some defensive CD's that might help, Bloodbath to help you recover when you start, Fetter Ward to keep you invulnerable when you do your burst, and your damage and crit boosts.
      • Sprint
      • Enliven / Invigorate / Icarus Wing
      • Foresight
      • Keen Flurry
      • Bloodbath
      • Battle Litany
      • Fetter Ward
      • Blood for Blood
      • Internal Release
    2. Phase 2: This part does an immense amount of damage in about 3s. Heavy Thrust first to further boost your damage, Blood of the Dragon sets you up for phase 3, Impulse Rush gets rid of positionals/increases crit, Skewer for the win and Weapon Throw to stop them from running if they're still alive.
      • Heavy Thrust
      • Blood of the Dragon
      • Impulse Rush
      • Phlebotomize
      • Skewer
      • Weapon Throw
    3. Phase 3: This part (and what you've been setting up for) is all about doing a Jump for a massive amount of damage. Spineshatter Dive and Leg Sweep will lock your target up. Disembowel further boosts your damage, then when you hit them with Chaos Thrust, Jump and Geirskogul, those 3 moves pretty much hit at the same time if done right. If a regular Jump at Wolves Den Pier does around 800 damage, then a critical Jump while doing this rotation will hit for 4000+.
      • Impulse Drive
      • Spineshatter Dive
      • Disembowel
      • Leg Sweep
      • Chaos Thrust
      • Jump
      • Geirskogul
    4. Phase 4: If you're training at the Wolves Den Pier, when you reach the end of the combo if you did it right, Full Thrust will still hit while under Blood for Blood.
      • True Thrust
      • Dragonfire Dive
      • Vorpal Thrust
      • Life Surge
      • Full Thrust

    Other tips
    • Before you stun for a LB, use a Full Thrust first in case the LB isn't enough
    • Use Feint on all the casters if there's a lot of enemy
    • Jump out of Mage LB
    • Gear up with stats on Crit/Det and a few with Crit/ACC

Video of me doing the rotation in a Seize match and building Battle Fever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3f4g6WNjmEest.

Anyone figured out exactly how much ACC is needed for melee/physical attackers now for frontal hits in 60 PVP? I've just been playing it safe by matching the amount of ACC the PvP sets (or accessories really) themselves provide, but it would be interesting if anyone has done testing.

    Edit: Oh, and hey Blubbers.

I usually run around with 426 accuracy for i150 sync in Seal Rock and don't really miss unless blind. Just tried 378 in a match and didn't notice any attacks miss.

edit: noticed a miss with 378 on my 2nd match.

    YO

This has a long wind-up and the damage output is steady(IMO bad, easy to disrupt/heal through). The early use of your 220+240 PVP action bursts gives the surprise away; will not catch a healer by surprise, maybe a newbie but not an experienced. Also remove Foresight because defences don't work for PVP, Resistances do however. I'd switch that out with Featherfoot.

What you need to try out is the old den insta-gib rotation. I did some amends to it because of the 60 cap, but this is it. PVP Actions in Bold.

Sprint | Enliven / Invigorate / Icarus Wing + Bloodbath
Battle Litany | Blood of the Dragon + Fetter Ward
Heavy Thrust | Internal Release + Blood for Blood
Impulse Drive | Power Surge + Lifesurge
Disembowel | Legsweep + Impulse Rush + Skewer
*Burst here is insane, catch a healer offguard
    **Target is stunned here

    Chaos Thrust | Spineshatter Dive
    **Stunned once again
    4th | Geirskogul + Dragonfire Dive(Jump)
Phlebotomize or (Full thrust Combo) | Jump(Dragonfire Dive)

    Yes, Lifesurged Disembowel
    Yes, 3 oGCDs

It is the only way to maximize buffs and potency per second. There is no job that can survive this rotation. Even tanks will get caught off-guard @ stun point. By the time you use your Lifesurge your target is probably healed.

Mathematically speaking, both rotations do the same skills. However the way yours goes about doing the same damage is steady, The one I posted carries the burst while the target is stunned. You expend 2 PVP (220+240 potency) actions in an early burst lowering the target's HP and preemptively alerting them about death. You also disregarded a non-positional 290 potency 4th combo.

Thanks for sharing. I did use Featherfoot before, thinking about Foresight now I guess it really is useless as long as Protect doesn't work.

I was skeptical about your rotation, using Life Surge w/Disembowel seems like a waste. But, after executing it, I see the burst definitely happens more rapidly in that section you pointed out. I recorded both of our rotations, so if anyone wants to see them they're right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG8M6Av1jOk Yours is the first, mine is the 2nd.

I'm not convinced it's a clearly better option, especially in a Frontline situation. There's upsides/downsides to both. People have a hard enough time executing rotations flawlessly on stationary bosses... whereas in PvP your target is always moving, people are healing them, binding/sleeping/stunning you, etc. With PvP, how effective you can execute it while reacting to the battle as it changes, is the main thing. So take all this with a grain of salt. I don't think one is better than the other. Damage wise mine does more, and to counter why I have mine set up the way it is (in Phases), would be that I can switch targets, and almost always do depending on the situation. My Phase 3 has a stun lock, and in the video you'll see it. If I wanted to use the 4th part of the combo as well, my Full Thrust wouldn't be under B4B (while practicing on a dummy).

But yeah, thanks for posting that, it's definitely a really good one for someone to pick up.

I call false, switch impulse rush and life surge and you already have more potency per second in the same time frame.

Oh yeah what you say is true. This rotation was a Den rotation, back when Disembowel had a positional .
Amending what you added isn't a big problem neither. Thanks for pointing it out.
