Not so sure about all of us. Every time I log in I know what the results are going to be. Going by your list I only do your step 1. After that I take an entirely different approach to the game.

I'm glad you had fun, but to me, the only fun part you did was running a dungeon with a friend and talking to folks in your LS. Everything else seems like you did because you were bored. This is exactly why Final Fantasy 11 was a much better game in terms of interaction and camaraderie. Final Fantasy 14 is just too gated and instanced. For somebody who doesn't have friends or just new to FF14, it feels very empty.
I didn't log in all weekend, for example, popped on tonight for a couple of hours. Talked to folks in my LS which was as hilarious as always. Sorted out my retainers, crafted some archaeonis leather (managed to HQ one!), ran Fractal with a tank friend, messed about in the Golden Saucer for a bit, finished off with a few FATES in Churning Mists. Nothing particularly thrilling but still a pleasant evening spent in convivial company.

What about the chore of grinding dungeons and fates to level an alt x)
Not too sure about this. I purposely waited until I finished the 2.0 story when I first joined to start playing with friends/other people. (Probably just a personal choice, but it's there). Yeah, I bared those 2 hour long DPS queues by myself.
Of course I get bored in-game. I get bored in real life too and there's tons of stuff to do. I got bored in Assassin's Creed 4 while in the smack-dab middle of doing like fifty thousand things. Just because there are options doesn't mean people won't get bored.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME

There really is no goal for the game.
None of the items are special.
There is no dynamic content.
There is barely any content that isn't locked behind a massive grind.
All I can say is everyone wanted everythign to be easier so they didn't have to play as much.... Well guess what? Now you don't have to play as much. Enjoy your time away from the game lol!
Leveling classes in itself can become just added monotony if you're not into it.
I'm sure it'll get better as we get more patches, but for the moment i'm missing 2.55
What we're really lacking is an alternative means of achieving our goals.
Right now, to achieve our main goal (esoterics), we've got:
1. Expert duties as our main source of esoterics (the two whole dungeon thing is what's really killing our drive)
2. Trial roulette to help us along with 10 extra a day (I mostly like to do this before every expert roulette to get me into my healing groove)
3. Alexander for some additional loot/esoterics (And when you've got all the relevant loot from there, there isn't much of a point to it anymore)
But, unless you're hardcore and do Savage, you've really only got the AF2 to look forward to.

Eh won't lie, I am kinda getting into the routine too (Saying level other classes is not really a viable answer when compared to other games where you are only given 1 class per character). I login, do my daily, tend to the garden, ask if any FC members need help and log out. Honestly out of boredom, I saw a fc member talking about the Titan sword, bought the heart of 700k and made it for him, just asked him to provide the materia. Am slowly leveling summoner now but still, its kinda eh.

It's okay to lose interest in a game. Some people do it faster than others regardless of available content. MMO's have a funny system where it goes through highs and lows with patches, with the most players right after a new patch and it dwindles as the next patch approaches. It's near impossible for an MMO to keep up with content locusts... and that's okay. You can come back later, or not! It's up to you.
If you find that the chore and grind is still worth your time, you're aware of this system and this thread is practically moot. If you weren't aware of this system, then you're simply playing a game you've fallen out of love with which doesn't make much sense to me either. You can take breaks from MMO's. If the "Gotta cap muh eso's!" is more of a priority than how you choose to enjoy leisure time, you should check your priorities. It's a video game. Video games are for fun. If you're not having fun anymore then you should quit or take a break until more content approaches. A lot of people take this route... and it's okay.

The real problem is everyone has completed all the content 3.0 had to offer and are doing other things until waiting for 3.1 to drops. These post start showing up just before a new patch drops. Oh and FFXI wasn't any better, just took a lot longer to grind out all the things we do now.
