Secondly, Mr. Happy rant incoming. Sorry, but it has to happen.

I hate Mr. Happy's videos. With a passion. Not only are they obnoxiously long, but his tone and demeanor make you feel stressed before you ever even go into whatever fight you watched a video for. That, and since he is only looking at it from a DPS perspective, his advice isn't nearly as useful to tanks or healers as Mizzteq's videos. Not only that, but I'm fairly certain that a few of the details he gave in First Coil were wrong. And don't even get me started on the effect he has on new content when it's released, specifically 24-man-raids. Hordes of players follow his strategies without even questioning whether they're wrong or not. They don't even know why they're set up that way. Hell, I don't think he understands why they're set them up that way.

Not sure where all the hate for Mr. Happy is coming from. His videos are long, yes, but they're very detailed. Far more useful for someone who wants to know all the details. Learning the extended details of something isn't always the most entertaining for everyone, but there are people who like to do that (me included).

MTQCapture is great for a quick rundown of what you need to do, but rarely explains why you need to do something or how a mechanic works exactly, or what happens if you don't do something, and sometimes misses some things. MTQCapture is in short, a summarizer, while Mr. Happy is far more thorough. Different people like different ways, and it's good to have both.

Anyways, I have a question OP: If you do a Q&A, can I do one too? I'm as much of a celebrity as you are I think, which is to say not at all

He seems like a really swell guy and he just wants to try to help out the community, but the problem is how many people, like you said, just follow his strategies without question. It's not about "this mechanic does ____, let's see what's the best way to handle it based on our group/player skill composition", but more "this mechanic is called ___ and we're gonna handle it like Mr. Happy told us to because he said so". It's not really his fault, though, at least I don't think. What I mean by this is that he explicitly states in his videos what worked for his group. What a lot of players don't get is that the strategy in question was handled by a tight knit group of 8 people who probably play better than you. Their way of handling something may be what worked best for them, but it's not the universal way of handling a mechanic, neither is it what works best for everyone.

I preferably tend to stick to Mizzteq's guides if I want a short and sweet explanation, or Xeno's guides if I want to see how a different group handled a fight and see differing opinions on strategies (his guides also tend to be a bit more in-depth). Mr. Happy's vids are just way too long for me. They are, however, extremely detailed.

Happy does a lot of people a service by making guides, doing Q&A's, and live letter analysis. He may not be "unqiue" but he put's a lot of love and effort into what he does.

Personally i just watch his lore video's and SOTR with ethys.

Yeah, the vitriol popular youtubers get is amazing. Don't like them? Don't watch, they're incredibly easy to avoid. That much salt can't be good for a person.

I don't watch Mr. Happy's videos all that often, but whenever I can't watch a live letter, I use his videos for a bullet point version of it. Apparently that makes me a misinformed, misguided; lazy and desperate person. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've watched a couple guides by Mr Happy, and they've helped. Feels like a lot of people just hate on him because he's popular though, which is sad, because he seems like a decent enough guy just doing what he likes.

This i mean. Mr happy is just a guy doing and playing what he loves most ppl hate him since they too have a youtube chan but only have 5 subs :P

Though I don't give strategies for anything I'm not experienced with. Hence why I never made Coil videos. I'm more of a "let's watch the storyline" person with random every day complaints and basic info on mandatory dungeons/trials.

(In case anyone looks at my channel in my sig, there are 120 episodes up currently. That's one episode short of the end of 2.4 story. I'm literally getting ready to go into the King Thordan trial at this moment. And you may want to skip earlier episodes. >_> That was before I learned how to edit.)

I was kind of debating doing something similar to Game Theory specifically for FFXIV, looking into lore and things people think of it, but now I'm actually scared to.

I still have a sore spot for Mr. Happy and his Garuda EX video causing a truckload of wipes when it was relevant content. However, he seems to have gotten noticeably better since then. But for the most part, I don't watch videos on boss strategies unless I really need to. I prefer learning it how they learned it; go into the content and see the bosses attack patterns, etc. for myself.
