I've played quite a few MMO's: WoW, EQ1, Wildstar, Aion, Rift, FF... Final Fantasy certainly has had the most friendly out of those. The community generally is willing to help, isn't near as toxic toward each other which is nice. Of course you have the occasional person who contradicts this, but in general the community is friendly.
Also most anti-social
But when you find people to talk with most of them are friendly, forums not included as they are full of hostile assholes
To be fair, comparatively it's actually slipped a fair bit lately. Especially on here. But in general, I'd say it's been a pretty amicable community, even during the worst parts of the pre-relaunch era.
Well i never run into any kid acting players like i did in PSU or PSO2 the humpersor go out with me if your a girl ppl :P but in DF iv seen my fair share of bum holes but you run into them in any game ^^
The most friendly communities are found in the older MMORPGs like Everquest and FFXI. There is far less conflict of interests in those games then there are in newer ones like this.
In 1.0 I would have said yes. In 3.0? Just like any other community really. Apart from the forums, those are worst then most others.
It's all luck of experience. I have seen way more 'toxicity' in this game than any other MMO I have played (WoW, Tera, GW2, Wildstar). However, I have put more hours into this game, so how can you really tell?
I speak rather bluntly here on the forums, but am pretty laid-back in-game. I've encountered a handful of rude people in my time playing (a BRD from BG back when BG was relevant told me I was a shit PLD during a CT lol), but most people will either mutter 1 or 2 snarky remarks or just quietly leave if a group isn't going well.
FFXIV has three things going for it that aid it in community strength.
1) The average age of MMO gamers in general is 26, with less than 25% being teenagers (<19yo). It's a mature genre compared to FPS.
2) The average age of MMO gamers in a subscription-based game is 29, with a little less than 50% having a family.
3) The Final Fantasy brand is one of the longest-running brands still in existence, spanning 28 years. It also is a more mature brand, versus ones like Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog which tend to have a younger following.
The combination of these things tends to make the community a bit more friendly and understanding than other games in the genre. Of course, as other people have stated, that doesn't prevent the "special" ones from leaking in every so often. I would say that, on average, I see 1-2 of these types of people for every 5-6 DF attempts, which is not bad at all.
