If I marked, it's because it's a target with a really annoying ability that I kinda want dead first.
I don't mark *everything* but if I put that "1" up there and you want to bitch about it, I'll make sure to ignore you when you need me to taunt something off you.
I don't bitch when people mark, as a SMN i am aoeing and not really focusing anything - so I just ignore it.
I don't think I've not pulled agro in an expert run, but I don't really care. I am up beside the tank spamming Blizz II, so it's easy to get it back.
I understand marking for abilities though, like the wasps in Neverreap. However, marking is pretty unnecessary even then.

It's situational.
So many tanks i've put divine seal'd regen, asylum and e4e and then proceed to spam holy and then due to either lack of defensive cooldowns, gear and movement they dip from 80%+ hp which clearly doesn't need healing to 5% in 5 seconds. I might and might not save that tank if things go well and have ogcds available but my fault if he dies? Nope. I was doing even more than my job and tank wasn't doing half of his.
But who gets the fault? Healer ofc because it makes it look healer wasn't healing.

DF all day, i tank/DPS in there and very rarely run into 'undesirables' - maybe it's the servers you guys are in? i dunno
the nasty attitudes i do see are usually from healers but yeah, anyone from anywhere (DF, PF, FC's, etc) can be on sour-patch status.. you laugh, maybe roll your eyes a bit and move on

It really might not even be as complicated as that.
People that main tanks will most likely get their tank to 60 first. And at that point, they don't need to run their tank in the leveling roulette. The tome rewards for running leveling roulette are a pittance to anyone who's level 60 (like 5 esoterics or something ridiculous), so if they're running leveling roulette at all, it's probably with a job that needs the XP (in other words, a job that's not at 60).
Now talking about EX roulette, the reason above doesn't apply, so most likely it's due to the basic fact that there are just more DPS jobs than tank or healer jobs.
