It's much too late for summoner to change. People need to realize that FFXIV jobs are not meant to be the same as jobs of the same name from other games, not to mention it's poor form to completely change a class (especially one that is perfectly fine as is) for no real reason.

Summoners on this game focus on channelling the powers of primals and casting them themselves, not actual summoning, as according to lore only beastmen can actually summon primals.

Oh I agree, and as I mentioned in the intro of my original post. The way SMN currently is, is not broken. There is nothing wrong with DoT's and I enjoy playing the job (It's literally the only job I play lol).

However it does seem like there is a good number of SMN players who still don't feel SMN is quite right or stuck in limbo, regardless of how it's current play style is. I just thought I'd throw this idea out there as a bit of "what if" fun. To show a potential play style that focuses on Summoning/Egi and that also work's with the games overall mechanics/lore. Rather than just a random idea, it is actually rather comprehensive and well thought out.

Of course this is just an initial concept. But the general idea could easily be tweaked one way or another as either a complete overhaul, or just as SMN's lvl70 abilities in the next expansion. Since as you say Beastmen should only be able to SMN full Primals, then a larger Egi that is more formed and resembles the actual Primal fairly closely could emerge from the void portal instead to cast Enkindle. There's always a work around.

I think summoner should play like beast mastery hunters in World of Warcraft.

For those who have never played that game there are various abilities that beast mastery hunters have that they have to activate manually and their pet reacts to it and does something.

Rather then have the abilities automatically be activated by the pet I think there should be more abilities that show interaction between the summoner and have to be manually used. An example of that might be an ability that the summoner uses that orders his/her summon to do a special attack and changes depending on what summon you have out.

idk why ppl say ps3 limitations, it sounds like you want ff11 smn idk if you never played or seen 11 but smn had ONLY smn ability and no other magic abilities (other then what there sub job allowed), and if they can make smn summon 9-12 avatars with each avatart having 5-10 ability on ps2............. then its not ps3 limitations, sure maybe some scalling down of the avatars because they are way to big in this game to match what was in 11.

BUT as ppl said its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to late to change smn w/o scrapping the smn story AND most of the main story, as to sum primal you need aeither engegy and it would screw over a lot of crap in the final coil and other main story elements.

i just think they didnt want to have ffxi smn in this game where you had two main abilitys blood packs and blood wards where wards were def abils and packs were offensive and were on 1 min cooldowns times, if you want to know more look at a video i was a smn in xi and i loved it even tho that smn had its own probs, for long ass time and even after some big changes, this game is too simple for that type of smn anyhow.

im just saying i don't think its ps3 limitations as ps3 just gets scaled down already and this game is made and produced on pc, everyone saying that just don't know what they a re talking about pc players. the only thing it MAY have an effect on is inventory but hell ppl said the same damn thing for ffxi ps2 limitations, but i played it for 10yrs and every time they said ps2 limitations for inventory when we had 60 slots then when i quit we had 80 + two 80+ bags we could carry so.....w/e on that its either they don't want to or too much work., but as i said this change would fuck the whole story over, if you even did smn job quest post 50 they would elabrate on it some too i dont want to spoil it.

    hope it helps.

I could see Yuna's fighting style working for a Beastmaster or Puppetmaster. It actually reminds me, thematically at least, of how Carl Clover fights in BlazBlue, what with his various robots popping out from his cape or hat to attack.

Actual according to lore anyone can summon primals except Summoner.

Just throwing about a "what if" idea for fun, doesn't have to be "this thread again" if you don't let it. The idea is quite comprehensive and not just a one line complaint tbh, so it's not quite the same thing.

And it's a shame that it doesn't matter what your intent for the thread was, because what eventually dictates the direction a thread goes is the people who post in it. And the very vocal minority that absolutely detests FF14 summoner will always start crying about it any chance they get.
