The way teleporting is right now I think does negatively affect the Emerson of the game. In my opinion a very few people know or understand the lore behind it and it gets lost. What would help is to reduce the frequency of being able to use this. Have a physical toll on your body, a status affect which disappears after a set period of time(not a reduction of stats, just a timer that is the ". Of course this would only be possible with the new addition of airships and chocobos. In addition an intro quest with the tutorial quests rich with a cinematic showing and explaining the wonder of aetherite energy and crystals. Each time you use an aetherite there should be a brief cutscean of your char turning into energy and flowing off into the energy stream.

Easy Transportation does not affect my immersion.

Wanna know what does affect my immersion? (gonna tell you anyway): mindless, non-game related LS Chat & Shouts. Stoopid character names with pop-culture references and/or psuedo-sexual references.

I am not a hardcore Role-Player (you won't see me in the park having mock sword fights) and I don't attempt to speak/chat in a psuedo-cockney accent in game nor do I ever even for a split second think that anything in this game is real however, I do the enjoy the illusion of this alternate reality and do often wish that Real Life could remain absent (and silent) from my fantasy world for a little while.

p.s Don't tell me to go play an offline rpg...I like the dynamic, ever-changing world that a MMORPG provides...even if I do have to interact with stoopid peeplz now and again.

You sir, get a like +1

    *salutes*

You know what you like, you know what you don't like, and you know what you want from an online game. That's more than many online game players can admit to.

    Me included :3

sorry, and not trying to be one of the stupid people either, just throwing my opinions out on the forums but. dynamic ... ever changing worlds of mmorpg? please do tell what that means and the diff from offline games. u didn't mention anything about solo play or anything ..but most these people are all for solo play. the only thing in a mmo that makes it ever changing is people ...stupid people, smart people, different people. it is the only thing that changes for the most part.

if u want to solo threw a mmo, ...well go play a offline game. they are dynamic, and interchange with every disc u put in lol. and lot of them are online play these days even rpg's have lot of online stuff being added.

also, a big vast world ..even ffxi ..even when u ran everywhere 90% of it was non agro, after the first time u'r head was probably staring at a tv while running place to place. theres places made for it to be challenging and then there's the runs in between them. porting crystal to crystal does not change this. and all crystals have a pretty long run in between. but there ain't crap to do either way. it's just not implemented right, u'r not running from a crystal to a spot for a mini boss in middle of 50 agro roselins like in ffxi. they need to add them. zones like where the hnm turle in ffxi? where everything agro's and u need to pay attention to when u'r sneak or invis wears off, we dont' have that either, and all other mmo's everything agro's for most part, and every mob is killed the same way and is just as boring as no agro anything. heck this games mobs ain't even dynamic at the moment in my opinion, they kinda are but till we can dispell or remove debuffs and stop debuffs and enfeebs an all that ...it's just a dunes crab vs crabs in boyda.

where was i going with this lol, oh yeah... nooo way in eorzia does instant boat rides or instant ports to specific locations hurt anything in game. ask yourself either way what is there to do at these locations? just leves. leves to me aren't even content ..it's a joke if they think they can just keep adding leves as content either way. they will need to add new things that take us past each crystal, from grinds that are 5-10min runs from there, to dungeons u need to make way to, or the quest spots they take us too ...they will all be the right 5-10mins away. ...running any farther specially for repeatable things like leves or locals ...is just dumb.

In FFXI, there was Conquest, Besieged and Campaign which determined what rewards/items were offered for sale/trade in the main cities and for what prices. They were dependent on player participation to affect the outcome and the "political layout" of the land. Vanadiel was Dynamic and ever-changing.

If several parties are grinding in a particular area, it makes traveling through that area less dangerous and easier to get a raise, a cure or a /help response. My gameplay is affected by other players actions (for better or worse) and I like it that way. I enjoy MMO's because the world changes because of my actions and the actions of others. Kinda makes it more realistic than a single player rpg can ever be. (I know realism in a fantasy world is an oxymoron but I require some reality to suspend my sense of disbelief).

MMO's also tend to have major updates/expansions that change the game world and mechanics quite drastically, even changing the classes/jobs to reflect the game world changes, whereas offline-rpg's generally just add new high-level missions if they get any updates at all. (All FF games are complete, done, fini, except for XI & XIV so I prefer mmo final fantasy over the finality of console FF).

My post was just an attempt at humor to take a jab at the whole "Immersion" aspect of gaming. Game mechanics do not ruin my immersion. A party member giving a movie review of Cowboys vs Aliens ruins my immersion, as does the inevitable LS chat conversation about your favorite FF game of all time... for the 1012th time.

I enjoy grouping up with others to complete in-game objectives. I just don't want to hear about what your watching on TV or how your date went last night. That's all I'm sayin' ;>)

He also knows what he's willing to put up with, which is a tremendous quality to have and allows him to be adaptable to his surroundings. +1.

I agree with this except for reducing the frequency. Implementing a risk/reward mechanic is fine and adding more in game references to aetherial teleportation is definitely needed. You don't need to nerf the system itself to add immersion though.
