Is it possible that the airships we're getting in 1.19 are a transportation option to make things easier for people who are always out of anima and feel the world is too big and boring to be bothered running around?

Is it also possible that we may in the future get airships that are content -- where we can actually ride around in them, pilot them ourselves, experience air battles, etc.?

It doesn't have to be one or the other, does it?

    Depends on who you ask.

If you are asking me - I prefer options > one way.

    Why?

Because one way becomes boring quickly and options give me longer before I become bored.

Not to mention the side effect of demanding/enforcing only one way could be harmful to your health in some situations.

I know I'm a little late, but I started school so less time for forums. In my experience instant transportation doesn't automatically kill immersion, but it does seem to cause less appreciation for the world. In Eorzea I wouldn't really want to not have instant transportation since there aren't that many nuances within the gameworld (plants that are cool to look at, weird cave not used for ANYTHING [not even a cut scene]). But once chocobos come our you might find us appreciating the world a little more. My thing is in XI the map was so, IDK, if you followed the road in xi that was the long way, seems like some zones in XIV are made specifically so we wouldn't jank hug this wall or something to get through zones faster, just something I noticed. example "lemme cut this corner here so I can get through this long winding loop in Gridania faster"....."log wtf, why is there a log covered by a bush?" :[ guess I'll stop cutting corners like a lazy person you got me SE!

Following the path set on the mini-map/ground also helps to avoid aggroable mobs. Mobs around the path have a tendency to be level 3 marmots.

Follow the yellow brick road (b'.')b

I also find the whole minimap thing to ruin the sense of immersion as well. I end up looking at it more than i look at the actual world. And i realize i could prob remove it or something but thats not the point. Its conveniant and all so i will use it. But at the same time it will make me feel more disjointed from the game...
Maybe if it was like -really- seethrough it would help

I have a GPS in my car. That ruins my sense of immersion in the real world.

it ruins my sense too :x nothing beats a good old fashioned giant map in your windshield ^^

and the mini map thing is more like theres no reason to really go off the path most of the time so instead of watching the pretty world they made and spent hours on when you run from place to place you watching a line denoting a path on the minimap

this would -easily- be fixed by implementing agro mobs so people would actually have to watch the game and not the map.

A character is able to sense gathering points as if by magic
Perhaps they are also able to sense the localised geography of the area they're in also as if by magic.

Does this help stop the mini-map from decreasing the immersion?

And at this point, at 748 posts across 75 pages... does anyone care anymore?
